Earthbound NES question

Obviously foods and some basic items can give you health, but how am I supposed to restore my PP(magic?)

I've tried the hotel in Podunk, no dice, so I'm having to walk back home each time to get some steak and a nap to restore and it's annoying as I'm up to the Zoo and after that I'll be out of easy reach of home.

  • I wish I knew. I'm still waiting for my copy to come in from nesreproductions. It's been about a month.
  • Wow I got mine from bunny (nesdump) in like 3-4 days. I know I've said it before, I've not heard good things about nesreproductions when it comes to timeliness among other things. Sorry to hear you're delayed that bad.
  • The reason I went with nesreproductions is because from I understand it's a direct copy from the prototype and not the hacked earthbound zero. It just adds that little bit of authenticity to it. I'm sure it doesn't really make a difference, but I just thought it would be cool. I didn't think it'd be this long though.
  • Ahh ok, true, but from what I've had told to me that 'legit' copy can still smell bullshit even flashed onto a cart and may not work on your system as it could trigger the 2 stoppers in it. The 'Zero' version patches those issues and (annoyingly) puts ZERO on the title screen which I can live with begrudgingly. I just wanted a pure copy from a reputable fast source that does solid work and I knew wouldn't trigger the anti-piracy measures. I mentioned I wanted the 'original' without zero and told it likely would choke.

...I hate derailing my own topic so...

Anyone know about the PP refilling other than heading back to mommy for a steak dinner and a warm bed?
  • To restore PP's you need to squeeze the PSI Stone...

Check this walkthrough, is very handy... http://walkthrough.starmen.net/earthbound0/

Have no worries with Leon. He'll get it there and he does excellent work. I've used him more than once and have no complaints other than the wait time. If it's been about a month then it should arrive any day now, and you'll be satisfied with his work I think. It's good stuff.

In the future though, I'd go with TheNESDump like Tanooki said if you want fast, quality reproductions. I've also used him and have no complaints. He can put any ROM that works onto a cartridge and have it to you within the week. No donors required.

(Sorry for the further thread reailment Tanooki)
  • Well Dendy thanks. I have been referencing it a bit since the in game map sucks and I'm used to earthbound this way as I had the SNES one (the first time) back in the 90s with the map so it's just how I go.

I saw the PSI Stone but I was hoping there was more to it than just that as well I have no idea where the hell it is. It's a found item, not for sale as the main item list mentions. I guess I may have to skim a text faq with a search to see how long I'll have to put up with it. Seems a bit like a stupid oversight to me.

EDIT: I did read up a little, are they only one shot use?  It seems there's only a few of them in the game fairly spaced out.  What are you supposed to do if they're not re-usable the rest of the time?  Do you have to keep going home or do some hotels or hospitals refresh it?
  • Anyone, hotel maybe?
  • I got my River City Ransom 2 (whatever the actual name is) from NESRepros and it came a couple weeks sooner than I expected. I suppose it just depends on how much free time he has to process orders.

Haven't got Earthbound yet. It's high on my list, though.
  • There's a house with a blue haired healer south of podunk by the bridge leading to the graveyard area. If I remember correctly he can recharge your PP. I may be wrong though.
  • I saw that there, he said he healed up your life, so I'm not sure. I wasn't carrying cash on me as well if you die you lose half so I couldn't test that. I guess that would be something, but hopefully hotels or something do it too in other areas.

I think you can use PSI stone more than ones... you can squeeze it two or three times and then it will disappear...

  • Yes that would help a little, but still is very limiting you know? It basically sticks you into just clubbing on things the entire time unless you need to heal or something.

LeonK did my FF3 repro, and he states on his page, I believe, that it will take him about a month to do the game and ship it back. I was a little sketchy when I first went through him, but his work is truly great.
