Mechanized Attack:

This game, for which I just realized I had the ROM loaded on my PowerPak but had never played until today, is hands-down the best Zapper Gun game for the NES.  (#2 belongs to the classic Duck Hunt.)  Varied arcade-style enemies and weapons really make the difference; I love the fact that you can use Controller 1 with one hand to lob grenades while you keep shooting with the other hand.  Plays great on my beloved old Sears LXI 26" CRT circa 1990.

I love discovering excellent NES games that I've never played!

  • pretty good but the arcade is just so much more awesome.

and you can 100% play 2 player mode on your own
  • I will have to dig out my Zapper now... When I first picked this cart up, I tried it with the controller and hated it. It went straight to my shelf. Maybe it will redeem itself when played as intended!

Well, yeah, but original arcade versions were almost always better by default than 8-bit NES ports for chrissakes (except for Gyruss, which is even BETTER on the NES), and besides, I ain't got an arcade cabinet of Mechanized Attack, so...I'll just have to love the NES port.  It's pretty damn good for an 8-bit port of what indeed looks like an incredible arcade game (unfortunately I never played this one back in the day).

What would have really amazing is if they had ported this game to the Sega Genesis and used the Justifier light gun.
  • I have never played MA, but now I'll check it out. Up until now I thought Lone Ranger was the best game that uses the zapper...
