the hate for weimanns is because its bad for games yo. amyl nitrate or alcohol is what is what you clean games with, because it doesnt have dirt and rocks or whatever that scratch up your components in it.
I still dont buy it. I just looked over a TON of my carts cleaned with wiemans. I shined a flashlight over the entire surface of the pins, and see nothing but shiny clean pins. I see NO evidence of scratching, pitting or anything else. It does not require brute force to clean them. A simple pass with a Qtip, both with weimans, followed up with a dry end to clean up the excess.

I can tell you the scratching part is complete BS. This is an abrasive, but it's a LIQUID. Nomatter how abrasive, LIQUID!=Scratching metal. Sorry. And anyone who doesn't use Wiemans is doing it wrong.
So if the problems is scratched pins then I'm guessing there's no remedy?
Scatched pins are not a problem, it was just a dead giveaway to me that you used Weimans to me. Trust me I have carts that even weimans couldn't fix entirely, because Weimans doesn't get rid of rust. Some of my carts that work perfectly are probably scatched much worse than that.
Also, there is no hate from me at all, 3Gen. In alot of cases Weimans is the only hope.
But what I do know is sometimes Weimans is used when it's not needed and only Iso is really needed, I only do it when there is terrible corrosian to the pins. And in that case, sometimes just one small dose isn't even enough to get it all off.
Another thing that I just thought of that most people don't even think about, make sure that there are no remnents from the cotton swaps left. Sometimes one little string of it, stuck in your system can do some funky things.
Elbow grease gets rid of the corrosion on pins from acidic stuff. But from Tanooki there's a lot it, and other members bashing it for no reason, it's simply the best and don't tell others not to use it. It's the classic cause of doing it wrong. And yeah, traces of cotton and the reside from anhy liquid you put on there should be properly cleaned off.
And please show a video of a cart going from nice pins to and using wiemans and them being scratched. You don't just cut into gold plating with a liquid. And to the post below, yeah. But you are missing a key word: polish. It polishes the contacts. It doesn't cut into them. Plus, this stuff isn't even supposed to be used as metal polish anyway.
I don't use Weimans (because until now I'd never heard of the stuff). I just use a Q-tip and Windex (yes, I know it's not the best and can leave a residue, but I've had much success with it and it's handy).
I did buy it from a flea market about a year ago, so I guess it's possible a previous owner used some abrasive cleaner.
From what I understood is that with time it can eat away at the pins or the silicon board, can't remember which as I haven't experienced it other than through other peoples horror stories.

I don't understand the hate for weimans from anyone. I'd never use anything but that.
Agreed, people act like we are soaking the pins in weiman's, but simply add a few drops, use a Qtip to scrub and BAM shiny like new looking pins.

Windex can eat your game up due to the ammonia. Cheapest effective thing 91% isopropyl alcohol from any store.
Why would ammonia eat up your nes games?
Most game stores in my area use windex, because they claim nintendo recommends using windex on cart games.
I use it all the time and haven't had any problems but I guess I'll stop, just in case.
I guess that would make sense for Nintendo to recomend it, lol
You have any links to any of these horror stories by chance?
