Gonna give the collection a little boost here after picking up some gems, but I missed a good chunk of the PSX era since I had a n64. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Fear Effect 2

  • Thats a good start. I was into the PS1/PSX fighters. The Darkstalkers series is my favorite, Tekken series is excellent, the King of Fighters series is also very good and don't forget the Capcom vs series.
  • Sol Divide. Strider 2. Legend of Dragoon. Vanark. Spider-Man. Heart of Darkness. Einhinder. Street Fighter collection. Omega Boost. R-Types. Raystorm. MDK. Syphon Filter. Metal Slug X. Spider. ONE. Skullmonkeys. Wild 9. Dino Crisis 2. Persona 2. Xenogears. I'll throw in Suikoden 1 and 2. There are a shit ton of awesome PS1 games, those are just some of the ones I really dig out of my collection, there's tons more I can't recall off the top of my head.
  • Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
    Lunar 2:  Eternal Blue Complete
    Tales of Destiny

These are some stellar RPG's that have grown on me.  The Lunar games are definitely worth checking out.  The game play itself is on the rather basic side, though the characters and story alone are completely worth it to play.   Tales of Destiny was rather fun as I always enjoy "Tales" games for their awesome game play and story-telling, so full of twists and turns.
  • Yea those are some good suggestions, I've played a few but right now trying to find a few more casual games, don't really have the time to get involved in a RPG, but one of these days....

I've been looking at Parappa the Rappa and Colony Wars next....
  • The Lunar games are good choices. I love both of them.

I should probably elaborate a bit on my choices.

Spider-Man: It's a really quality action game and it was the first to really capture the character and how cool it is to swing around and climb on walls. All of the boss fights are really well done too.

Sol Divide: Great 2D style shooter, it's alot like Wings of Wor on the genesis, which is a good thing.

Legend of Dragoon: Way underrated RPG, the button press combo thing makes the battles alot of fun and it's really cool once you master it.

Heart of Darkness: Just a really cool game, I haven't played a whole lot else like it.

Einhinder: One of my favorite shooters by far.

Strider 2: Never gets enough love. Really good action game especially if you're a fan like me.

Dino Crisis 2: Kinda arcadey but I really like it, more than the first actually.

MDK: It's a wicked game that's really dark and has a sense of humor to match. Great graphics for such an old game too.

As for the rest Vanark is a great 3D shooter with really good graphics, Skullmonkeys is really fun in small doses, ONE is really quality but it's very hard, Wild 9 is a fun game, reminds me a bit of Vectorman, Spider is a really awesome game no one talks about but you're a spider with guns, what more do you want? Xenogears is a really dense game with lots packed into it, you'll play it for a long time even by RPG standards and the story is better than most, same goes with Persona 2.
  • Tenchu Stealth Assassins is one of my alltime favorite games. The sequels kinda all suck unfortunately.

Oddworld Abes Odysee is fun too.
  • May not be the greatest game, but I enjoyed playing a game about police car chases. Don't remember the name though, but it won't be hard to find I guess.

    NFS 3 Hot Pursuit?

Oh yea, and I have Oddworld Abe's Exodus as well. Gonna keep my eye out for Spider-Man and Dino Crisis 2.
  • one game I don't see mentioned yet that I really liked is Vagrant story

No, it literally had the words "Police" and "Chases" in the title. You were the police, and used like three kinds of police cars. The end mission was to stop a tank. It was a low profile game I suppose, but I had fun with my uncle trying to complete it.
  • The Bloody Roar series I thought was pretty good(fighting game). Played a ton of Hot Shots Golf as well. Definitely a great system. Here are some other suggestions(even though you said you don't really have the time for RPGs, I'll add a few).

Breath of Fire 3 and 4

    Dragon Warrior 7

    Driver

    Silent Hill

    Saga Frontier

    Star Ocean: The Second Story

  • I'll second the Darkstalkers series, and recommend the Crash Bandicoot series. Also, instead of (or in addition to) Twisted Metal 3, you should try Twisted Metal 2. 2 is probably the best in the series while 3 is often said to be one of the worst.

    Worlds Scariest Police Chases?

  • the parasite eve games are pretty cool. but they would require some time. Otherwise, Tomba (as you have listed) is a fun little platformer.
  • The Syphon Filter series was pretty good also.

    Yeah, that's the one!

This.  You should definitely get these games.  Some of my favorites on the system.
  • Puzzle and platformers were always my favs from this console:

    Yoyo's Puzzle Park

    Kula World

    Intelligent Qube

    Devil Dice

    Mr Domino

    Pandemonium 1/2

    Crash Bandicoot 1/2/3

    Rayman 1

    Oddworld

    Mickey's Wild Adventure

    Parappa The Rapper

    Point Blank

    Demolition Racer

    Tenchu Stealth Assassins

  • Twisted Metal 1&2, Jet Moto and Sled Storm. Guilty Gear=bad ass 2D fighter. Lost Vikings, Project Overkill,, Syndicate Wars and Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain. Loaded, Reloaded, Silent Hill. Some pretty good light gun games too for the system.
  • I have played and beaten TM 2 probably 20 or so times, and I still love it. What type of games are the legacy of kain series? 3d adventure?
  • Legacy of Kain was like an action RPG and Soul Reaver was a 3d action adventure spin off. All of those titles are really good.

Here's a clip of Blood Omen Legacy of Kain. I thought this was crazy intense back in the day.  Soul Reaver is totally different, more like a cross between Tomb Raider and Medeviel which is a cool game in it's own right.

  • I would recommend Chrono Cross or FF7. Both are great games, just ignore all the hype on FF7 and go into the game as if you've never heard of it before (unless you've already played it, which I'm sure you have).
  • Diablo and Warcraft 2 are nice as is the PC conversion of Wing Commander 3 too. Final Fantasy, if you want the really good one, get 9. I see you got MMX games, so why not Mega Man 8 as it's a cheapy. Also the Air/Ace Combat series is a fun one to have around. I'd also recommend Einhander and Strider 2 as they're good choices (Strider 2 if I recall has Strider 1 on a second disk.) R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 is a really good racer and throws in a remastered Ridge Racer1 in the box too. Also I'd consider if you can stand 100hour rpg type games Dragon Quest.
  • I'll second Intelligent Qube and also suggest Irritating Stick

FF 9 is a great suggestion as well. I'd avoid 8. Dragon Quest 8 was a good one as well.

If you're going to get MM8, I'd recommend the Anniversary Collection that has 1 through 8 on it. It's not too difficult to find and not at all expensive, plus it has some cool features such as artwork and I believe an episode or 2 of the original cartoon.

ETA: Also Lunar 1 and 2 for the playstation as well. Both are amazing games.

  • Herc's Adventures [PlayStation Game]

Can't believe I forgot to mention this one. Great adventure game. Herc's adventures!

  • skullmonkeys is one of the best platformer ive ever played. If you like tactical strategy games like the fftactics, theres Saiyuki Journey to the West.
  • I apologize if some of these have been mentioned before, but I'll take a shot and mention some of my favorites.

Obviously, you have Tomba, so get Tomba 2. Both are very fun.
If you're a Castlevania fan, Castlevania: Chronicles is a solid remake/expansion of the original.
Rayman is always a good choice, and should be abundant.
Knightriderce covered all of the fighters on the first page...
And though SamSpade mentioned it, Legend of Dragoon is an amazing RPG.
MDK is very fun and has a sequel on the Dreamcast, I believe.
The Duke Nukem games almost go without saying, though if you don't like crude humor (like me), you may find it offensive.
Ape Escape was extremely fun in my younger years, and it's still fun today. The target audience of preteens is fairly obvious, though. I believe it has a sequel on the PS2 (and maybe Xbox) as well.

    I hope I helped!

Seconded, though I found 2 better in every way to 1.

  • Megaman Legends 1 and 2 are pretty good.
