Your fave arcade machines that you love but never see anymore

I just got to thinking about this and was wondering what everyone's fave arcade machines were. I mean the ones you love so much that no matter where you are, when you see them you have to stop and pop a quarter in.

Mine would have to be:
Ninja turtles either of them
Xmen
The Simpsons
pole position
double dragon.

  • Time Pilot, my fave and 1942 is good on arcade too, but spent my fare share of quarters on street fighter arcade too.
  • My favorites at the skating rink I went to from about 1987-1995 were Frogger and Ms. Pac-Man. I very rarely play those games now but I can't even guess how many quarters I dropped into those games. My other favorite from that era was Gauntlet at the gas station 2 blocks from my house.
  • I always loved Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga machines because of the free play glitch on Galaga.
  • Mr.Do Played it at 7-11 waiting for the bus to Jr. High. It was replaced by Super Off Road wile waiting for the bus to high school.
  • I loved Tempest when I was around 10. My grandmother was a favorite customer of two gay guys who ran a seafood restaurant. Whenever I went there with her, they'd give me rolls of free quarters and let me play their arcade games for free all night. I played Tempest mostly. They also had a Pengo cabinet and that was pretty awesome too.

At the local hockey rink, there was a Popeye cabinet I never got sick of. It's such a simple but addictive game.

At the corner store, everyone flocked to the Super Mario Bros. cabinet but I played the Cloak & Dagger game a lot more. This one has sadly gone mostly forgotten and that's a darned shame. For a game made in 1983, it had some pretty good cutscene graphics. Here's a video if you've never seen this game:

The bowling alley had Snow Bros. and believe you me, I probably dumped a year's worth of allowance money into that thing. I got to level 70-something once before running out of quarters. It was somehow much easier in the arcade than the NES version is.

And there's S.T.U.N. Runner, an early 3-D racing game, like a precursor to Wipeout. It was great for its time and I played a few rounds each time I visited the mall.
  • NBA JAM.. it also helps when I own one and I don't need quarters
  • Defender, Stargate, Joust.....all other williams games, Jail Break, Tempest, and thats about it.
  • Mainly anything fighting besides Mortal Kombat.

Living relatively close to the famous Funspot, I can say I'm pretty lucky.

Although, the only fighters they have are MK 1-3, which is dumb.

And they're missing 6-player X-Men. Other than that, I've got no qualms.
  • Growl (Runark)

    Pit Fighter

    Double Dragon

    I miss those ones dearly.
  • I remember when Street Fighter hit the arcades, my friends and I were nuts for it. Tekken was the same story shortly after that.
  • Mr. Do! and Mr. Do!'s Rollercoaster ALWAYS got play.

Wow, I had forgotten all about Cloak and Dagger! Did they ever play that on Starcade?
  • 4 Player Spider-Man, and 100 Mile Rally (I think it's called.)
  • street fighter 2 champ. edition

    terminator 2: judgement day

    smash tv

    double dragon

    nintendo vs. series
  • Speed Rumbler was my favorite arcade game when I was younger. The only place that had it was 400 miles away so I only played it a few different times.

Then I got older and bought it, now it rots away in my garage.
  • Frontline comes to mind. The one like Ikari Warriors kinda, but it had an 8 way steel dial for shooting. Dragon's Lair and Space Ace definitely deserve mention. Also, my best bud growing up, had the football game, with the X's and O's, that you would constantly pinch your fingers on the trackball, that game rocked. But, in all manners, MKII was the pinnacle for me, and I'm 36. When that game came out, I was hooked. I was the dude, that when I was playing, chumps would line up, and wastefully drop coin, only to be sat down by me. I was (and still am) the master of that game, and Time Killers, for when I was on a break from destroying peeps with Shang Tsung.
  • Super Dodgeball. If I knew I could maintain one and store it, I'd have one. It's hard, it's fun, and it's both because the game after round one is entirely random in how the AI reacts. Each round throws +1 big guy to take down, yet the clock remains at 3min to clear em all or fail. Big guys and fatass shorties can catch/throw power shots, little dudes can not and all YOU get is 3 weenies and a big guy. Skills required.
  • Anytime i see a metal slug cab i have to play. the 6 player widescreen xmen is another you don't see enough. i also cannot pass up the simpsons or donkey kong
  • Strider

    Willow

    Quartet

    Street Fighter II Turbo

    World Heroes

    Ms Pac Man

Any time I see any of those I've got to pop some quarters in.

I had totally forgotten about the arcade version of Moonwalker.  It was much better than the Sega Genesis version

  • Pretty much anything that is half-decent. We don't have many arcade machines around here, so when I see one, regardless of what it is, I try to play it. Some favorites I'd love to run into though: Primal Rage, Mortal Kombat II, Raiden, TMNT, The Simpsons, Killer Instinct 1 or 2, and Strider.
  • Rolling Thunder and Popeye!
  • Alot of ones that I like have been mentioned. Sunset Riders is an interesting beat-em-up too. As far as modern cabinets go, I'd love to have a Mario Kart Arcade and Pac-Man Battle Royale cabinet locally. Only thing you can find in downtown Charleston is a couple Golden Tee machine and one Ms Pac Man/Galaga machine. WV SUCKS when it comes to arcades...

I should have put Sunset Riders on my list too   The SNES port is pretty good.
  • Black Tiger, Forgotten Worlds, Time pilot, Moon Patrol.
  • Does anyone remember or has anyone played Bucky O' Hare for the arcade? I didn't even know there was one until i recently came across one.
  • I would love to own the following arcade machines, four absolutely classic games, none of which can really be done justice on emulators without using custom-made expensive control panels:

    Star Wars

    Tempest

Krull (THIS is one of the greatest arcade games EVER, and the convenience store a few blocks away from my house had it; never saw it in an actual arcade)

    Tron

    S.T.U.N. Runner
  • Wave I think I know a place that has a tempest for sale if your interested.

  • Final Fight, Double Dragon, Street Fighter II, Combatribes.

Aw man, I appreciate that, but unfortunately I have no room for it!  I don't even have room for lots of NES cartridges, hence my beloved PowerPak!
