DS emulation/sd card-type thing?

Hey guys -

Been a while!

I looked through the FAQ & rules and I'm not quite sure what the rules are on this type of thing, but I'm wondering if there's an SD card-type thing that allows for emulation of old games to play on DS?

I know zero about this type of stuff, so any education would be nice.  Basically, my goal is to have a bunch of vintage games loaded up to play on my DS since I absolutely hate most of the library and I also hate using the stylus.

Does this exist?  Can I buy one?  How do I go about getting games on there?

Thanks!

  • I'm not sure on how the rules are either, but until the thread is locked I'll see if I can help. I'm getting ready to do the same to a DSi XL, for a buddies, wife's, nephew. Talk about passing the buck. Anyway, the item you want, is the AceKard for a DS and DS Lite, or an AceKard2i for for a DSi or an XL. You will also need a Micro SD card, and the bigger, the better. I always run with a 16 GB. You will probably have to get it from a reseller, shipped from China. I just got one in (took about 3-4 weeks) and I believe the total was around $75 for the combo, both 16GB Micro SD, and the Flash Cart . After that, you'll need the games, and the firmware for the card. I'm really just telling you about the 2 pieces of hardware you need. Everything else you need to know, is easily found on youtube. That $75 will make your DS a favorite possession, or "your precious". You can slam so many games, onto a 16GB card.
  • It's literally the easiest thing in the world. I have a NDS Lite, with an R4 card, and 2GB SD. You can buy the R4 with the 2GB SD online for about $14 shipped. Once you buy it, all you do is load the firmware for the card onto the SD card and from there you can boot it up. As for adding games and stuff, its very easy. Most emulators are just one .NDS file you drag and drop onto the card, and then you can make a folder of all your favorite ROMS for that particular emulator. In my opinion, a 16GB is overkill, you will never play that many games that you fit onto that card. With my 2GB, I fit on there about 30 DS games, 350 NES games, 20 GB/GBC games, and 20 SNES games. It is literally endless entertainment. One of the best investments you will ever make.

I am not condoning the act of illegally downloading games. I advise you only download games you own to avoid the possibility of being accused of stealing. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
  • I concur, with Dr. Sam. But with the AceKard, and a 16GB....All Sega Master system, Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, NES, SNES, N64, and GameBoy games will fit on it. ALL OF THEM!! What's better than that? You will still have room for over 200 DS games. That's like 4500 games, in yo pocket!! Good luck!
  • Oh, no I actually own every game ever made for every console. I just like having backups, just in case, you know.
  • I don't understand all of this ROM/emulator stuff. Is there an "emulation/ROMs for Dummies" website out there? haha

hahahaha, if you like having all those games at your convienance, than go for it! If I personally had that many games on my card at once, I would NEVER be able to pick one to play! So I have to keep my library at a happy medium.

Bill, the emulator is the actual file that allows you to play the games on your DS. Most of the time they will just be one file, for example "supernintendo.nds". Once you load that, it will bring you to a screen that allows you to browse through all the files on your micro SD card. The actual game files are called "ROMS". Again, for example, if you wanted to download Super Mario Bros. for NES the file would look something like "supermariobrothers.nes". Everything you would want to know about this stuff can be found on youtube, google is also your friend.

    EVERYY??? EVER!!!!
  • I think he must be joking. There is a member here who basically does for the most part for older stuff though I think...
  • Mmm sarcasm strikes again. Just get an AceKard or something, anything with the 'i' on the end because it'll work in the DSi or 3DS in its DS mode. All you need is it and a micro-SD card to slot into it. Just copy whatever to the card, it has it's own boot menu, and much like the PowerPak select what you want and get to gaming.
  • I have a hacked PSP it's definetly worth the few bucks to have that many games on the go.
  • I have the R4, but finding the best emulator has been an issue for me. I only have the SNES games I own on the card, but the graphics are glitchy on it. The SMS emulator, however, works flawlessly. haven't gotten around to readding the NES one in.
