E3 2011

Hey everyone!

I am beyond excited for E3 2011. I just wanted to start a topic where we can discuss our predictions, or hopes, and later on our reactions.

I'll kick things off!

I really think Nintendo is going to blow us away for the 2nd year in a row. I honestly cannot wait to see Project Cafe in action. This console is my most anticipated console release of all time. I'm sure most of the people here have heard most of the rumors surrounding Project Cafe. To be quite honest I think its almost a given to assume that Nintendo's 6th home console will be outputting 1080p HD graphics as well as 7.1 surround sound via HDMI. If they don't at least do that I think a lot of people are going to be upset. I know everyone always says that it's not all about the graphics and I agree with that to a certain degree. I for one love great graphics. I think the Nintendo franchises could really take adverting of higher resolution polygons and more expansive worlds. That being said, controls and content are the most important aspect of a game in my opinion. I am very excited to see what this new controller looks like. From what I have heard and seen I really hope it turns out to be similar to a GameCube controller with a screen on it. I really loved the GameCube controller and I think the only thing really missing from it was a left bumper button. I also hope that Nintendo keeps around the Wiimote with Motion Plus. I absolutely love motion controls and I sincerely hope that they do not just disappear. Don't get me wrong, I love classic controls as well. I would love to see the option for all games where you can either choose the new controller or the Wiimote to control the game. I think that would really cater to everyone. I think Nintendo really needs to put together an online subscription service similar to XBox Live. I want lobbys, voice chat, friends lists, demos, trailers, netflix, and everything else XBox Live is so popular for having. Nintendo fans deserve some improvement in that area.

I really hope that the Wii still has another year of greatness ahead of it though. I want to see Skyward Sword released on the Wii before the end of 2011. I also want to see more details about this long lost Kirby game we got a glimpse of a few months back. From what I understand it has been in the works since the GameCube so I really hope they don't push it back onto the Project Cafe. I would like to see a whole new lineup of games in the works for Project Cafe. A new Pikmin, a new Metroid, a new Mario, a new Zelda, a new Donkey kong, a new Mario Kart, a new Paper Mario, a new Punch-Out!, are all things I would love to see. Miyamoto has also said in interviews that he is working on a brand new IP so perhaps we will be introduced to his new creation as a launch game for Cafe. I really hope we see companies like Rockstar, Bioware, Bethesda, Capcom, Havok, Sega, Square-Enix and many others strongly supporting Project Cafe.

As for the 3DS, I think we are going to finally get some info on the content we are all anxiously awaiting. I want to see more info on Super Mario 3D, Paper Mario, Mario Kart 3D, Resident Evil and Metal Gear. I also want Nintendo to announce the release date for Kid Icarus: Uprising. I was under the impression that Kid Icarus and Zelda were both supposed to be released before E3 2011 and to be honest I am very disappointed that didn't hold true. I also hope that we get a whole new batch of teaser trailers for upcoming 3DS games in the works that we maybe weren't even expecting. I am really looking forward to seeing what the 3rd party developers bring to the table as well. With the update for the Internet Browser and E-Shop releasing the day before Nintendo's E3 conference I really hope we are able to watch YouTube videos in 3D. I hope the E-Shop is full of great games to download as well. I will be downloading Link's Awakening and Super Mario Land on day 1 but I hope there are more worthy titles than just those 2. I really feel like the 3DS has a lot of room to improve and I feel like it has the potential to shine a lot brighter than it has so far.

Now onto Microsoft and Sony.

With Microsoft, I really only want to see what they plan to do with Kinect. I want to see if they are going to actually support it or if they are just going to let it fall to the wayside. I personally think that they might even make Kinect compatible with the new next gen XBox. I have some strange looming feeling that Microsoft and Sony both are going to tease the release of their next home consoles in an effort to steal some of Nintendo's thunder. I can't say that I blame them though. With all the hype around Project Cafe they would be stupid to not show anything from their future plans. Then again I could be completely wrong and they might decide to wait until next year so that they can have all the spotlight to themselves.

I really hope Rareware has a resurgence and takes some note of all the retro reboots that Nintendo has had so much success with. I would love to see a new Perfect Dark, a new Banjo-Kazooie, a new Conker, a new Killer Instinct, a new Jet Force Gemini, a new Kameo and a new Sabreman. I know that I've got my heads high in the clouds with this one but I can always hope right? haha.

As for Sony, I expect their conference to start off with a big long apology for the PSN issues. Fallowed by a highlight of their "Welcome Back" program.

Then I expect them to blow us away with all their exclusives. I know they showed us a lot of their plans last year and I really think we are just going to see more of that. I really don't expect any new crazy surprises from Sony. I just expect extended trailers and demos of the games they announced last year. I really hope they do have something up their sleeves because lord knows they could use some hype instead of all the drama.

I'm looking forward to Kevin Butler as well but I seriously hope he sticks to talking about Sony and doesn't bash the other companies.

I really don't care too much about the PSVita or NGP. I am interested in seeing a handheld with PS3 graphics and a touch screen but I am not hyped for it and I really don't expect to be blown away. I think the idea of being able to play the exact same game on the consoles on a handheld is a very cool idea though. I would love to be able to pause and save a game at home and then pop it into a handheld and just go on the bus or the train and continue my game without even blinking an eye. I think that is extremely innovative and exciting.

Anyways, I can't really think of anything else to say at the moment so I will cut myself off there.

I would love to hear everyones predictions, hopes and expectations! I look forward to reading the responses.

I cannot wait for E3 2011. This is the most exciting time of the year for me personally! Let the fun begin!

  • My thoughts on nintendo in general is that i really have not been excited for any recent nintendo made games besides dkc returns. So many kids, and casual games. Xbox suits me better. Hopefully they can go back to the old nintendo stuff, to me the wii was a big middle finger.
  • I can totally see where you're coming from. A lot of people really dislike the Wii because of it's forced controls and shovelware. Luckily for me I was able to look past that and find a lot of enjoyment from the little white box. I only own first party Nintendo games on the Wii and completely steered clear of everything else. I think Nintendo was hurting financially after the GameCube so when they found success with the casual market with the Wii they just ran with it to stay afloat business wise. I have the feeling Nintendo really wants to pay homage to their core fan base this time around and take the money they made from the Wii and really invest it in a console for the traditional gamers who got Nintendo to where they are in the first place. I really got that feeling from the titles they put out last year. I think they want to keep heading in the same direction.
  • You're not gonna be seeing a new Paper Mario on the Project Cafe, at least not at E3, given that the 3DS game is still in development and may or may not get a release date during the conference. I'd wager we have at least two or so more years before one is announced, if it is at all. Super Paper Mario was released in '07, and a new one wasn't announced until 2010. And there actually was a Perfect Dark sequel (called Perfect Dark Core) in development, but few know about it. It was canned early in development. And what's the PSVita?

As for E3, I'm just looking forward to the 3DS lineups, and not much else. Project Cafe is cool and all, but I just can't get excited for it. In fact, I only ever get excited for a select few game series when they have new entries announced. Golden Sun is one of them, and given that I heard a rumor that a 3DS version is in development, I'm hoping to see a confirmation of it at E3. But I'm trying not to hold my breath, given that Dark Dawn just came out a few months ago.

I really do want Paper Mario though, and am also hoping that the SSB4 rumor is true.
  • Yeah, I think you're right about Paper Mario for Cafe. It likely won't happen for a few years.

On the more realistic side, I think SSB4 and a new F-Zero are probably the most likely titles that Nintendo will show off for Cafe.
  • To be honest, I'd much rather see the next F-Zero game being released for the 3DS. We finally have a handheld that could handle the processing speed, and graphics necessary to make a real good portable F-Zero. Heck, since they are rereleasing so many other N64 titles, I'd just be happy with a rerelease of F-Zero X. Also, Nintendo has excelled in multiplayer in many more ways on handhelds than they have with consoles. Four player+ ds multiplayer F-Zero racing would be a dream come true.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but Nintendo has never been hurting for money. The Gamecube did not make them lose money. In fact, Nintendo never has lost money on a console outside of the Virtual Boy. The Wii was not a quick fix for a Gamecube drought.

I have never looked forward to a console at any time in the past, nor do I forsee myself doing so in the future. I grew up with a SNES/N64 and GBC/GBA, and in my opinion no consoles since then have been hype worthy. That being said, my friends and I always have an E3 party, so in a sense I do look forward to E3 since its a great time for us to get together and celebrate all things video gaming. Also, I will say that I look out for games at E3 and every year there are a few that are hype-worthy. I just don't understand the hype around consoles.
  • Is anyone here going to E3?
  • I don't care what any companies do, I want to see some Battlefield 3 action. The COD vs Battlfield showdown later in the year is far better than anything at E3 with the console makers.
  • I'm very excited to see what Nintendo shows us this year.....of course bat-shit excited for Project Cafe and also to see what else they have in store for the 3DS.

I have passes but theres no way i can afford the flight hotel rental car etc
  • I have been a gamer all my life. I own all next gen systems. As for retro gaming, I am hardcore Nintendo. Got all old systems hooked up and ready to go anytime.

As for E3, all my interest lies in Nintendo. I want to know what project cafe is, i want to see their coming attractions and the biggest thing for me this year (those of you who have been talking to me should be able to guess) is the 25th Anniversary of Zelda. I am dying to know what they are gonna do for it.

I just hope i dont get dissapointed cause mario's anniversary blew.

Got my badge, but probably gonna sit this one out. Been around 10 times and they just seem to be getting worse.  Last year seemed like I was at a theme park with all the long lines for demonstrations.
  • I'm interested to see new hardware like the NGP and Cafe, I hope they reveal specifics and possible launch titles. Also, some games, like Battlefield 3, I want to see blow everything out of the water.

As for going to E3 itself, it's different then just watching or reading about the event. For the past 3 years, I've been able to go to E3.  I did go back in 2009 for like 1 day; I played Forza 3, watched a demo for DJ hero, got some free shit, and that was it.

If you do go, prepare for long ass lines.
  • Eh.. Honestly, I'm more interested in what MS and Sony have up their sleeves. Maybe one of them will announce a new system. At least something they put out may be impressive on more than just a control level.

Nintendo? Yeah.. Don't really care to see what new games are in development, as they will be here eventually and I'm sure they will be good.. And even if they come up with some wickedly-cool control mechanism for the Cafe, the hardware itself most-likely isn't going to be impressive. Not shell-out-another-$200+-because-I-already-have-two-systems-that-do-the-same-thing expensive.

If a F-Zero was made on the Cafe, I would probably be the first in line to buy it though.

  • Just curious if any of the new 3DS games coming out are gonna be original or all ports of old games?
  • Pikmin 3 for Cafe...and Earthbound Re-entry...then I can die happy

And Crystalis! A duo of those as release titles would actually force me to buy the Cafe! Also, a new HD Animal Crossing would be suh-weet!

Paper Mario and Kid Icarus are both original. There are more that I can't think of right now, too.
  • been reading the latest round of rumors and hints coming from the industry

    it's possible there will be:

    Pikmin 3 cafe

    Super mario HD cafe

    Super mario 3DS

Legend of Zelda cafe (surprise announcement to coincide will OOT 3ds and skyward sword, triple zelda release due to 25th anniversary)

    Grand theft auto Cafe

and Konami teased a brand new Contra yesterday! they didn't say what platform though

and every year I still cross my fingers for a new Earthbound!
  • Anyone watching it streaming? Where? Ign? Gamespot? Man I live in SD. You guys with passes should have sent them to me! I would love to go!

Hey Joe I can take this passes off your hand =)

  • g4 has it streaming.
  • Why does everyone want Pikmin 3 to be on the Cafe? Regular old Wii would work fine... As long as the GameCube controller is still supported. That's the only way to play Pikmin with any sort of precision.
  • EA @ 12:30...
  • microsoft milking another average IP in halo for 28 more games, can't say im surprised
  • I like the look of Skyrim. I'm not a Microsoft or Sony fan in the slightest, but I've been an Elder Scrolls fan since Morrowind. I hope it doesn't incorporate the Kinect though, it looks very gimmicky.
  • The WiiU, man I think it looks cool. Zelda HD, very nice.
