Ultima Warriors of Destiny
I have sought this game for years and years. I have heard tell that it is the best NES Ultima game, better than Quest of the Avatar (which I thought was killer). And yet yesterday I popped it in and got ready for adventure and I'm not so sure.
The battle interface is real time, but it takes about 3 button presses to execute an attack so it goes very slow, and I feel like my guys are getting slaughtered in the interim. First you have to press the button for your sword, then move the cursor, then press the button again for the attack.
It took my party getting killed for me to even find Lord British's castle and then once there it was nearly impossible to find my way around, and I have the map!
I'm also not entirely sold on the whole A button brings up a cursor, place the cursor over the thing you want to examine, person you want to talk to, then hit the A button again. Very clunky and cumbersome.
Also, it appears that you do not control your allies, which is odd.
I'm still working at it, because I love this series and I've waited too long to play this game, but it seems I am missing the charm of it.
Anyone out there really love this game and can help me get off to a better start?
