Pop-up when you recieve a message?

Hi. I think it would be better if you implemented this instead of the "inbox: no message/one message" spot. It's not always that you remember to look for it. Also, you never know if the person you've pm'd have spotted it, forcing you to run around different threads and tell him to check it out. Maybe he doesn't even want to reply for some reason and you keep waiting, wondering if he read it at all...

With a pop-up you would atleast know.

  • I for one HATE pop up messages! I am def not a fan of this idea myself. I think the red text stands out enough that it is pretty easy to tell when you have a message, plus it sends you an email as well.

  • I agree. The red text is enough for me. I always know when I have a new PM without any pop-ups.
  • Now that I have an inbox again, it works fine for me!
  • I was going to say, dear god no. Less pop-ups is a good thing!
  • Definitely no. Outlook does this. It's very distracting.
  • wouldn't it be better if you knew that the reciever has been made aware of your message instead of guessing? I once recieved a message that i didn't notice for days. I was simply done with a deal and didn't keep in mind that someone might write. Also someone might want to ignore you for some reason. It's better to figure this out immediately than to run around the forum and ask the guy if he has seen it.

And an email isn't that great either since many people just make them and forget about them. Or never read them at all...
  • Don't like pop-ups, they just suddenly pop up when you least expect 'em, completely interupting whatever else it was that you were doing before it popped up. Message notifications are fine as is.

Most forums you can go to your sentbox and see whether or not a message you sent has been read. I'm pretty sure that feature doesn't exist here but if it did it would solve this "problem" without creating a new one.
  • Considering your low post count and one transaction, I can assume you're not on NA a whole lot.

Give it time and you'll get used to checking the corner of the screen. The red really jumps.

Besides the fact nobody likes pop-ups, I'm sure everyone uses some sort of pop-up blocker anyway, thus making the already bad idea a moot one.
  • The red text is very noticeable. No pop-ups! Sqoon messages are bad enough!
  • the thing where you can see if someone has read it from the sent-area would solve alot.

  • pop-ups are the work of the devil.
  • Just turn on email notification of PMs and your problem is solved.
  • It seems like if you could tell when someone read your PM it would create a whole other level of paranoia with some. "Oh my gosh, why haven't you responded! It's 4 PM and I see you opened my message an hour ago!"
  • i would say it's better than not knowing if the person read it at all, or if he just ignores you..

I'm not a fan of knowing when people read a PM.  I personally get about 40 PMs a day on average, sometimes I read them and don't respond for a week.

People knowing that I've already read the PM and didn't respond will only generate more PMs to me, making the problem worse.

  • People knowing whether or not your PM was read is, in my opinion, an issue of privacy. When you send someone a letter, you don't stop by their house and check their mailbox to see if they checked their mail, right? That's kinda how I view this, personally.
  • That's a fair and reasonable explanation, I think.
  • I do think the PM system needs tweaked a bit, but pop ups? No, I like the red text -- that works well for me.

    yeah otto,
Did you get my message about the trade? It has been 2 days...what is going on? Why have you not messaged me back with a counter offer? Come on man, I thought you were a straight shooter...(note the sarcasm)

  • i do think the inbox needs a bit of an up date, but no way should we do pop ups. Maybe the thing with the red text could be a bit longer or something. Or maybe you could have the option to have it flash. IDK. I'm just throwing out some ideas.

This. I have Windows Live Messenger constantly running in the background and it alerts me with a little pop-up in the corner whenever I get any emails relating to NA. I think this a fine solution for anyone who wants a pop-up alert. Having it built into the site I think would be more annoying than helpful.
  • no pop ups please! Inbox is fine I get tons of pm's everyday and I always notice them

  • I would be in favor of having the tab in your browser (the title of the page?) change text.. that is, instead of:

"NA >> Pop-up when you recieve a message?"

    it could be something like..

    "NA >> NEW MESSAGE!"
