Another game store I I didn't see on the list that I know sells retro is Cash 4 Games in Newark, New Jersey. He has stuff from just about every system you can imagine. The prices are a little high for some of that stuff. That said, he does have an entire case filled with brand new NES games that is he, for whatever reason, he has buried behind storage. One of the guys there told he his asking prices are a high, but if NIB NES is your thing and you live in Jersey it might be worth checking out. It's just a little walk from the Prudential Center.
Upfront it looks like a card store, but along the back shelves and in display cases they have TONS of rare games. Off the top of my head from my last look through the Snes case they had Earthbound, Mega Man X3, Ogre Battle, Mega Man x2, Wild Guns. They have some heavy hitters there. The main problem with this store is that it's mainly a card store and the video game section isn't very user friendly. When I go there I generally bring a list of what I'm looking for and have the guy check the computer. A LOT of their stuff is in the back too. I picked up a Tengen Tetris this weekend and they had it in the back and not in their NES display case which is also full of some goodies like TMNT Tournament fighters, Contra Force etc. As for prices, their commons are "a little" overpriced, what you'd expect off ebay, but their higher tiered games are very fairly priced (Earthbound 150, MMx3 110, MMx2 50) A little under ebay retail.
I can't speak highly enough of this store. The owner Gregg runs the place himself and its incredible for collectors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Vgndr0NXzZ0#t=606s is a clip of a video of Bizznes17 a NA member's trip to this store. My last trip there he had a LOT more rare stuff, but again its at collectors prices. Nothing too unfair, and he's always giving out great deals. My last trip I picked up Mega Man 5/6, Hyperstone Heist, Joe and Mac 2, and some other 16 bit stuff. His selection is incredible I certainly recommend checking it out.
These guys are a chain that haven't been mentioned. They have a lot of good stuff and the retro stuff is usually priced very fairly. Their selection is hit or miss though. I frequent 2 of them here in Wausau and sometimes I'll leave with nothing and sometimes I'll score a sweet deal. I picked up Flintstones Treasure of Sierra Madrock and Battletoads CIB this weekend for 11 total, so there's deals to be had, just need to be patient. They also have stuff like Halo 4 and Cod 2 tournaments, if you're into that gross stuff
Unfortunately, both Game Force locales in Jacksonville, FL have gone out of business. Not sure as to exactly when, as I go to college ~10 hours away, but according to friends in town they packed up shop sometime around October or November. Actually registered here in search of a decent replacement near-by.
The staff is nice and helpful, but our Gorilla Games barely deserves to be listed. The place doesn't have squat compared to the old Game Force stores, or really any decent vintage gaming store.
Guess I'll give Game Swap in Green Cove Springs a try sometime next week, also worth noting that 'Green Cove Springs' is basically a suburb of Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra for anyone that might be passing through or new to the area.
Well Game Trader moved to Georgia. So I would edit that so people don't get confused. LOl I tried calling both numbers then I texted my local friend form the forum and he gave me that info since he's been a long time NA member and lives really close.
Here's 2 that aren't listed.
Players Choice
735 Atlantic City Blvd aka Rt. 9,
Bayville, NJ 08721
Phone: (732) 551-2199
It's really on Rt. 9 but for some reason they are calling it that. I just didn't want anyone getting confused. I know about them cause me and my buddy went there once. Not sure how pickins are because they we're closed when we got there.....
East Coast Gamers
38 Robbins St,
Toms River, NJ 08753
Phone: (732) 349-1300
They are right across the street from the OCC Libary but kind of on the side of it across the street. They are on Facebook and I liked their page but they are pircey. My friend from the forum said they wanted $20 for Contra NES i think cart only. I guess it's woth checking out if your in the area....
I will be going there at somepoint. Just to see what they have.....
If I find anymore I will let you guys know or if my wife does LOL. She's the one that found East Coast Gamers so I can't take the cerdit LOL.
There is a Game Exchange here in Albany, Oregon. They just recently opened this last November. I've been able to get a lot of new stuff from them. They have a Contra Force for NES that I should go pick up today after school.
Also, there is a Video Game Wizards in Silverton, Oregon. This is where I used to go before the Game Exchange in Albany opened up. So thankful I don't have to drive 40 or so miles anymore.
The ones in Portland I know of seem to already be listed.
There is a GAME WORLD in Kissimmee, Florida that sells retro games but at the moment, they are closed for some repair work. They have a Facebook page for those who want to keep up to date on it.
There is a retro toy store in Everett, WA that sells vintage games also. It's called Boba Khan (yes, it's star wars and star trek put together) and the games I have found to be priced high but the trip is worth it for the all sweet action figure collections they have.
Can we get Video Game Trader in Brick, New Jersey removed? I went there today and the store no longer exists. If it moved or closed down it should be updated/taken off the list as people looking to make day trips might go there and leave empty handed. On a side note, there is a very good burrito place across the way, so the trip wasn't a total bust.
I'm a collector here in Memphis and my favorite place to go to is a local used CD/Retro game store called Replays, they always have top notch games for the best prices, the owner is Stan and he's a stand up guy for sure.
I just wanted to add something for Keefe's Comics and Collectibles. I run that booth out of an antique mall called Pacific Run Antique Mall at 10228 Pacific Ave S, Tacoma, WA 98444. My space number is 122. I'm not always there since I pay them 12% commission to run it for me but, if you wanna come in and take a look, please do. It's hard for me to offer much of a discount considering how little business we actually do but, if you let me know when you're coming in ahead of time and I can be there. I can probably offer 5% off of any item of your choosing...just let me know you're from Nintendo Age and what your handle is. Thanks!
