New award icons
Okay, first off, not sure if this is the best place for this topic or if it should be under "Help Wanted" area.
Anyways, I've noticed a whole slew of new Icons. I'm excited about them and think they are pretty neat, but I'm not sure what requirements need to be met to qualify for some of them.
For example:
Complete Mario, complete Zelda, complete Metriod, ect... what games are we counting here? Just main mario games or games like Mario Golf, Mario Kart, Pinball? All systems or just consoles and not handhelds? I'm okay with whatever the community or mods decide but I do think it would be helpful to have an official list to go off of. That way everyone is on the same page. Also, is this just loose or does it have to be CIB? Just wondering and thanks again to berserker for the icon designs.
List of people on NA who can add awards:
B.A.
Benihana
Berserker
Braveheart69
Burdger
GameboyRicky
Mario's Right Nut
NationalGameDepot

Paul
Penguin

I was going to make some for the entrants of the nesdev competition, but I don't want things to get out of hand
Also, heres my thoughts on what should count. Mario for example. Doesn't have to be CIB, loose works fine. It would be just the main games, that way it doesn't spin out of control. Something like this:
NES
Mario Bros. (Classic Series)
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
SNES
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi Island
Super Mario All-stars
Super Mario All-stars/w Super Mario World
N64
Super Mario 64
Gamecube
Super Mario Sunshine
Wii
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
New Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario All-Stars 25th Ann.
Gameboy
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario Land 3
Gameboy Color
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
Gameboy Advance
Super Mario Advance 1
Super Mario Advance 2
Super Mario Advance 3
Super Mario Advance 4
DS
Super Mario 64 DS
New Super Mario Bros. DS
I just went off memory, missing any main games? Maybe you wouldn't count games like Yoshi's Island or Super Mario Land 3 since those arn't mainly mario games. Also, some of those are just rehashed games put out on different systems. I wouldn't county Mario Hotel for CDi... screw that game... and the CDi zeldas... I say those don't count.
Speedrunner (Have had 1 or more speedruns accepted by SpeedDemosArchive.com or TASVideos.org)
Also do you have to have the disc based "Collection" games in all their formats and do you have to have the games in all their formats for example
I currently own
Megaman 1-6 NES
Megaman 1,4 GB
Megaman 7 X X2 X3 Soccer SNES
Megaman 8 PS1
Megaman 9 Wii
Megamsn 10 Wii
Megaman Aniversery collection GCN
Megaman X collection GCN.
Megaman X PC
What do i need?
If it only means origional series then
I'm missing then 2,3,5 for gameboy
and Wiley No Light Rock board that's paradise
Or am i also missing
Wiley wars, Genesis
Megaman 1,3 PC (HiTech Expressions)
Aniversery Collection PS2, Xbox
Megaman 9,10 Xbox live, PSN
Megaman 8 Saturn.
Megaman: Powered Up PSP
as well
DO i have to have each game in the series on every console it came out for?
Mega Man & Bass?
Mega Man X4-X8 and Command Mission?
Mega Man Xtreme 1 and 2?
Mega Man Legends 1 and 2? (and the Misadventures of Tron Boone!?!)
Mega Man Network Transition?
Mega Man Zero 1-4?
Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent?
Mega Man Star Force 1-3?
There's a lot
edit: on a different note, does anyone who has a series award have to prove they still have it every time a new game comes out? Sounds like potentially a lot of work!
Ick, this is getting messy, why do we need a series award? *throws wood on the fire*
Why not?

I guess it's just harder to confirm legitimacy. Unless we start a thread for each icon "Post your pic's here for authentication".

well in order to get the icon you have to show proof to the admin before it is added.
1. What kind of badges are awarded?
2. How do I go about getting said badges?
Thanks!!
Really, I just come up with the basic idea and design. Whether or not they're actually kept is another thing.
Dain is probably super busy, so don't expect anything too quick.
Most of the new awards are pretty self-explanatory. And who knows for sure if they'll be kept.
So just give it some time.
Edit: Plus, it's probably not easy (in the background) to make the icons into awards.
I still have many icons that should be awards, but others have changed for some people.
There are probably bugs to be had.

I would guess it all has to be done manually. So at the very least it would take a long time.
The ultimate goal, who knows. It's fun, remember Dain loves fun. NA = fun. Awards add to the fun.
Some of the details are still being worked out, but if you feel you deserve one of the new categories, PM me.
List of all awards, not all will be implemented, at least I don't know if they all will be.

Ick, this is getting messy, why do we need a series award? *throws wood on the fire*
Why not?
I guess it's just harder to confirm legitimacy. Unless we start a thread for each icon "Post your pic's here for authentication".
Not to mention new games will constantly be added to the series...

Well, I knew there would be people opposing it. My main reason for making them was seeing so many different types of collections. Like I've seen many great Zelda collections. These, like many other awards, won't be easy to get. Awards aren't just to look cool. They're to help drive people too, like achievements and trophies.
I knew there might be some people hating on these awards. I made them because not all people collect by console specifically.
There have been a lot of great Zelda collections lately for instance. I think these too are accomplishments to be observed.
These won't be easy to get. Just like the complete set ones, they will be difficult.
However I did add some easy ones too. Like the Social Networking one and the T-Shirt one, (Forget who suggested that.)
While those are easy, they will hopefully make the community a little tighter and drive a little more traffic. (And increase shirt sales for Dain.)
Don't think of the awards as just cool icons. Think of them as achievements/trophies. There to give you that extra encouragement.
Meant for people to say, "You know, I've got 5/14 Virtual Boy games. Maybe I'll go for the complete set! I'll get an award too!".
Clutter is one thing we don't want. That was one of the main reasons for the awards and reason why many icons turned into awards.
If it gets bad we can always tweak things and what not down the road. Only time will tell.
But I hope this helps you all understand some of the positive things awards can bring for us all as collectors. And as a community.
PM me.
Maybe I will! That sounds like a dare!
(later once things are not in transition)

I'm going to miss the days where people collect what they wanted, instead of what they could get an award for. That is all.

Yeah, I'm sure people will spend thousands of dollars/hours getting games that they don't really want to collect, just for a stupid award on a video game collecting website... If that is really what you got out of what I said, you're missing the point.
The A-Team van one is too small!!!
Sorry, had to squeeze some of the icons down because they were bigger than 16x16 award size.
But at least you can still tell what it is! That was a tricky one! (Biggest icon out of all of them.) lol

I get what you mean. When I look at the awards, it more or less reminds or inspires me to finish what I started. Like I have several GBA Nes Series titles, or to finish my Zelda, Metroid or Castlevania sets, I only need 1 or 2 games. I started these sets way before they were awards, but they really bring things back into focus and motivate me to accomplish what I set out to do in the first place.
