Buyers Beware Category

So why not have a Buyers Beware Category? I think it'd be great to have it organized as a separate category instead of being bumped/spammed while people try to do their business in 'Gaming Buy, Sell & Trade' category topics.

It fits 'Gaming Buy, Sell & Trade' , but I don't want to bump people who wtb, sell or trade stuff. This could also cover grounds on things that are also not apart of 'Gaming Buy, Sell & Trade' (shady salesmen maybe?)

Comments

  • Brilliant idea. Shady items and forgeries are becoming a major problem in the collecting scene and the more awareness we can have the better.
  • Anyone else think this is okay? I mean, it could go between both the 'NA auctions' and the 'Gaming Buy, Sell & Trade' categories so that it's near the proper categories without the need to bump people's sales and swapping and stuff.
  • we are currently working on a few different things in the mod squad, the e-zine and price guide have monopolized my time in the past week so look forward to a new an improved system after the e-zine is released!
  • lol it used to be called HoS

Ah, okay. :3 Well I look forward to a new system after the e-zine is released then! It can be different than I suggested, but as long as the overall flow of the market isn't disturbed, I'm good!
  • It's been 2 days, no contact. It was supposed to be sent out the 28. Who can I contact, so people know to stay away from him.

I was about to say it. HoS would work geat. If it doesn't come back with the great ability to punish users who do crap stuff to others, maybe it could be filled with bad ebay stores and such instead. I wish I knew weather a user sometimes took weeks to ship out if I ever buy stuff from someone.
  • Wynd, if you have a problem with a transaction here you should PM a mod if you and the other party can not settle the issue yourselves. Publicly calling them out in the open forum will only cause unnecessary problems that could be worked out privately.
  • It would be a good place too to keep track of and document forgeries.
  • IT can't be worked out privately, as he won't respond now.... that's why I'm calling him out.

  • Are you seriously complaining that an item hasnt been sent out yet and its only been 2 days? Some people have really busy lives, but 99.% of the guys here will come through for you and even go beyond alot of the time..
  • Hall of Shame could be a pinned topic in the Buyers Beware Category... just a thought to keep things more organized. :3
  • Don't worry...the HOS is under discussion and will be put back where it belongs.

We are just working out the final details, then all will be back to normal.

Then again, the HOS is a "buyers beware" of shady people...not items. IE...the SNES controller CIB recently mentioned...
  • What about the sellers who don't know? Some sellers aren't aware of the bootleg items... So maybe a buyer AND sellers beware? That's why I want a buyers beware for items too so sellers wont end up on HoS lists. Give them a fair warning and to also educate ones that are buying as well. :3
  • If a seller lists their items accurately with clear pictures (if needed) and buyers do the research they "should" do...there will never be a problem. Maybe a thread could get started (like the new sealed thread) but I don't think there is going to be another category specifically for it...

We go by the "KISS" motto here...

    Keep It Simple Stupid....
  • Will it be simpler by instead digging through tons and tons of categories and threads to find out how to spot fakes, make something so people won't be gypped into buying something they think is real?

Meh, I dunno... maybe I'm over analytical and it seems more efficient to make something like this IMO. If anything, I'll keep posting a 'Buyers/Sellers Items Beware' thingie in the 'Collector's Corner' because it does seem to fit there for now anyways. But thanks for keeping this under consideration at least. :3
  • We have never had any problems before.

Feel free to update your original thread as needed with new "fake items" or anything thing else that can be a concern for the community. Then everybody will know where to look when they want all the info...no need to make multiple threads...
  • ^ Very true... I will do! :3
  • I'm mostly just curious, but do we really need a revamped HoS? Has there been a run on scammers and shady folk in the last number of months since it stopped being maintained?

Maybe it's just because I'm not poking into every single thread, but things have seemed rather better around here lately. It may not be directly corollated to the HoS being locked up, but without a public whipping post, attitudes seem to be more contained. Might it not be better just to institute a zero-tolerance policy/3-strike policy, set up banable offenses (i.e. bait and switch; forgeries; take more than 3 weeks to ship something; etc.), and then just start clearing people out if the screw up? No need to make a big thing of it every time it happens, just let them disappear. I could see keeping a HoS list going for bad eBay sellers, but limit it to that.

    Just my two cents.
  • ^ When Someone dissapears, do you notice it? A lot of that stuff is already in place, we just don't advertise it. However if we did "clear people out if they screw up", we wouldn't have anyone left.

HoS is good in principal, but it always turns into a bitch fest. "Buyers Beware" catagory would fall into the same shit pretty quickly, IMO.
  • I don't think there's a need for another category, especially for this. I didn't read everyone's post, but we all pretty much know what to look out for and who to not deal with. New people should always search the forums and do research before making a purchase - that's just common sense on the internet anyway. If we need a buyer beware category, then we need a "Potential People to Fuck You Over" category as well.
