Umm... I am lucky?

Am currently packing to move. Was going through a box full of NES boxes. And stumbled apon a near minty Flinstones : The Surprise at Dino Peak! Box. I sold a torn manual for this game awhile ago. But this box is a solid 9/10.

Any ideas on price?, I know it is somewhat valuable.

  • i would say. $350.00-$400.00 if its a 9/10 like to stated!!! Congrats on finding it lol
  • This is just the box. No game. No Booklet. Anyone else have any ideas? Or can I really expect 3-4 hundred on this item???

    Really curious now.

  • If it's mint, like you say, at least $400.00.  Post a pic, I'd like to see it.
  • NintendoNut's pretty accurate
  • wow, thats so awesome, that would be the best day of my life!! and yes it really is worth that much.
  • Definitely worth $300-$400 easy if its a 9/10 box. Would you please supply 1,000 words to describe the box? On second thought, how about just a picture image
  • couldn'a done much better if you were cleaning your room and randomly found an ounce of gold sitting in the corner.
  • isn't gold worth like 800 these days? but I get your point.
  • My GF/BFF has a digital camera and I can probably get a picture up here in the next couple days. But I definitely will not be keeping the box. Need the money alot more than space being taken up in a box in the closet. But yes, my jaw dropped when I was going through my stuff, I'm such an idiot for not noticing it sooner!

While I have 620+ NES games, I only have about 50 boxes, so I had no idea I had something that cool. I have quite a few other great condition weird boxes in addition to the F2 if anyone is interested, let me know.

Haha...you're just now noticing that image ?  About a week ago, gold was up to $930...
  • How the hell did you just have this box and not realized you had it? lol

I'd say value is about $350 for it +/- $50.

haha.... yup, it's tied to the price of crude oil, it's looking to be a rather solid investment.

NES games are way more fun though!

I had no idea that box was worth that much either.  Damn.  What makes it so sought after?

  • Flintstones 2 was largely distributed as a rental-only game, and therefore many of the boxes that have surfaced have either been mistreated (such as by having been slashed with a razor knife by some Blockbuster stockboy to get it open quickly) or cut/stickered/shelfworn. A few have been in remarkably mint condition, and at least one sealed copy does exist. These have been explained by a possible secondary distribution through mail-order but to date I have not seen any evidence (order form, invoice, ad)... apart from the sealed one!

Chronologically speaking, also this was an extremely late releases in the NES lifespan considering FS1 has the red "Nintendo Entertainment System" bar across the top of its box (a hallmark of the last games, because this style distinguished NES from SNES on the same shelves). Point being, the latest releases are hard to find to begin with since many NES games were in the bargain bin during the SNES changeover, and customers were by-and-large unwilling to spend $40+ on an "outdated" game even if it was new.
  • How do we know that FS2 was a rental exclusive?  Up until recently everyone thought that Stadium Events was a NY test release, but that has been proven to be untrue.
  • I am kind of curious as to why they would go through all the trouble to make a game, only to limit the sales by making it exclusive to a rental chain? I dont really get why they would do that.

    Good point.
  • It was rental/mail order only. Taito had a deal with blockbuster on rentals and they apparently reached an agreement to have an exclusive game for blockbuster. They were also sold via mail order. It explains why there are so few boxes and manuals, and why most of them are sun fadded plus beat to piss.

  • Towards the end of the run distributors were dropping orders of NES in favor of SNES, but some games that had expensive licenses (BB2 and FS2!) were still in the development pipeline. Development for video games is usually 2 years. Rather than scrub the launch, Taito probably had some creative marketing people realize that a wide release was a losing proposition and they came up with the rental-exclusive idea. In fact, there have been many rental-exclusives since these for various platforms...in fact, Blockbuster sometimes gets their logo incorporated into box art for these. It's common practice now, but it was a relatively new idea at the time. I don't think Taito pioneered the idea (there were some Atari games that were rental-only, esp. the porno ones) but it worked for them.

For another example of this idea, see: Panesians. See also: Disney's straight-to-video animated sequels.

Distribution is expensive, and most large retail chains negotiate a return clause for unsold merchandise.
  • So someone has seen pics of this sealed F2 or is it another NES rumor? And was it still sealed with a horizantal line?

EDIT-I bought Hotelmarios ripped F2 manual from him awhile ago,He is a trustworty guy and even sent me free Starwars stickers!!

  • It is not a rumor, that much is 100 percent certain.
  • thanks nofriendo, for anyone that is interested, I should have a picture up here in a couple of days. Meh, I can brag every now and then, I don't usually have a reason to haha.
  • How do you know it was not a re-seal?

pretty much all metal commodoties are up.    Goes hand in hand with the dollar being weak.   If you think of gold as another currency like the dollar or yen, its no surprise it goes up relative to the USD when the dollar tanks.    Ie even if the price of gold just stays stable in terms of every other currency, it will go up in USD terms.

  • umm attempt to upload picture...

  • Doesn't look like a box bro. lol

How was this proven? I was still under the impression that SE was only released in NY.
