Remove red marker on cart

Hey there,
second post here and I already need help. I got these games at a fleamarket last saturday, got them to play them obvisiously, but I must admit that I can't stand the condition Turtles in time is in. The whole cart is painted over with red marker.

What options do I have without having to buy a new one? Is there some way to get it off without destroying the label which is in good condition? Is there a way to swap the case and label or something?

Thanks for every hint I get!

  • Use rubbing alcohol. That should work. The kind women use to clean their face/make up with. Good luck
  • Little rubbing alcohol on a scotch brite magic erase sponge works for me. Then again, ive never cleaned something THAT bad
  • Magic Eraser is your best bet, but I doubt you will ever get it back to grey though. At this point it's probably bonded at the molecular level.

You should probably just make it red with more marker work.
  • I usually use windex. Do be careful with the label though...
  • Meh...I was going to say brake fluid but it may make a bigger mess than you already have, plus you would have to be careful near the label. I removed black lettering and at one time blue with it with fairly good success with only one out of 10 I did had a faint "ghost" image remain which is not noticeable unless its pointed out or have a keen eye. IF you decide to try that I would do it in small sections and not all at once.
  • I second dot 3 brake fluid. Test an open area first, and be sure to clean it off completely when you're done. I doubt it can get any worse though.
  • I'm not sure about this, but after you clean all the marker off with magic eraser/fluid/whatever, would RetrObrite be able to take the coloring out of it if it's embedded into the plastic itself?

I've only recently heard of this product (heard of ways to make similar stuff), but would love to know the same.  I say a sacrificial Shaq-Fu should be used!
  • Thanks everyone, your tips definitely helped but I need to get some other stuff first, like maybe Retrobright.

  • If you're VERY careful around the label using a Q-Tip you can get those edges. Rubbing alcohol might seep in the label slightly, but it dries super fast so there shouldn't be any damage. Test a small area. It's really the only way you can get it all off. I also use it with a Magic Rub eraser to remove more.
