I have had a person offer to sell it to me for $10. I dont want to rip this person off. What would be a reasonable amount for me to pay. I was thinking $30, but I know some of you guys are nuts over Sqoon.
Wow, I wish someone would offer me a boxed Sqoon for $10!
I think you are doing the right thing by throwing in some extra money since he is obviously inexperienced in the current values of rare NES items. Nice to see there are some good people in this world.
This is one of those crazy moral dilemmas... if you saw a boxed Sqoon on ebay for $10, you wouldn't think twice about buying it. If you know this person well, I'd say throw him/her a few extra bones. If you don't know this person well, I personally think it's the their responsibility to know the value of the item they're selling. Just my $.02
I agree ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I get asked all the time at work do i fell good about ripping people off. I respond its not ripping them off. I'm giving them what they asked for it. Even if its a $200 certifed AROD autograph for $1.
Yeah, thats a tough call. I got a killer lot from one of my best friends girlfriend (Mint CIB games including Mega Man 1, Bubble Bobble, a bunch of others and a system). I asked what she wanted, she said $80 and I said ok. She was never going to use the stuff and that price was more than fair to her (she was thrilled), so it didn't bother me. Totally up to you, depending on the condition $30 would most likely be a steal too unless it was completely beat to crap.
If it's in nice shape, $30 is pretty low as well, I think. If you don't have a problem offering low at $30, why would offering low at $10 be a problem? To other people it's just a game. Take the deal.
Here's the problem if dude offers it to you for $10 and you say ok how about $30... UMN HELLO alarm bells go off... Really why would guy offer me $30 after I say $10... I know that's what I would think. I paid $150 for my minty mint CIB copy. But I also paid $6 shipped for a crappy one from Canada that was missing the top of the box completely. However I listed that on ebay and it sold just the box missing the top (CLEARLY shown in my auction pics) for $33 or $35 can't remember final price but it was one of those. So $30 would be great deal for nice copy... but beware of offering more than he wants... my 2 cents!
Ive been in gaming stores and seen people bring in crates of stuff Im thinking to myself wow theres got to be 500 or more dollars worth of stuff and the stores says 40 dollars. the people are like wow 40 for this old stuff. which without us crazy collectors the old stuff probally would sell for much. Gamestop only gave 25 cents for nes carts before they stopped taking nes. I would say if you were keeping a game for your own collection I would pay the ten. but if it was for reselling I would probally offer more.
I say, if it is actually a friend of yours your obligated to tell him what it's really worth and let him make a decision how much he would want to sell it to you for. A minty Sqoon isn't worth straining a relationship over.
If it's just some guy (or girl) then just take the deal...we do it on ebay all the time.
So long as the seller is happy I wouldn't care. It is the sellers job to find out how much something is worth, not the buyers. If I walked into Walmart and saw Wii games on sell for 10 each your damn skippy I would buy every single one of them. If it is a close friend they are prob just wanting to help you out anyways and don't care about the game. I would pay them 10 bucks an be on my happy way.
Joe, I don't think that's his dilemma, it's his knowledge of the higher value, and whether or not he informs the seller. He obviously won't let the guy go without telling him to ask X dollars the next time he tries to sell.
Moreover I hate this argument, this is a moral choice we're discussing here. How about when I say, "She was asking for it, if I didn't date-rape her, it was going to happen anyways."

Uhh... pretty extreme example there, Debbie Downer.
date rape and a cheap NES box aren't quite the same, but I see you point Dan. The moral dilemma ends for me if the seller is happy though, so long as both parties are happy I don't care. If I found a gold NWC in the wild I sure as HELL wouldn't tell them waht it was worth and run away with poop in my pants.
When I first started hunting for Magic cards way back when, I would try to be completely forthcoming with card values and stuff, and more often than not it would make the other party MORE suspicious of me, that I was telling them up-front that their stuff was worth more. I had deals walk just because when I started to tell them that their stuff was worth more than they were asking, they then DIDN'T TRUST MY ESTIMATE and decided to go elsewhere and squeeze more money out of it. Completely backfired. Once you put the idea in someone's head that what they have is valuable, they all of a sudden want it more than they did just a moment earlier.
And this isn't an isolated incident, this would happen very, very often. I soon learned, value is in the eye of the beholder, and a deal is agreed upon between two parties. With anything except currency and commodities, there's no "right price."
Sorry about the whole date-rape thing. I'm not trying to make light of that topic, I'm just trying to point out the folly of trying to qualify a moral decision based upon the morals of the next guy in line to make that choice.

If he's offering it to you for $10, then I would pay $10...it probably seems like a good deal to the seller.
