I went to 1 of the big city's in Holland yesterday with a friend.
We also went to a store that sells/buys a lot of things not only games
The store owner knows me as a nes collector and showed me some new stuff he got in.
I told him that i also collected pal n64 games now and that i was looking for some of the rarer n64 games,he didn't have them,then he said:i have something that might interrest you!? And went to the back of the store.
when he came back i thought : WHAT THE FUCK! he pops down 5 n64 proto's
ok,stay cool i told myself and said,those are funny n64 games what do you want for those? 25 euro each ,hmm can i get them all 5 for 100 euro hans im a little low on cash? sure take them.
cool,i payed and asked where did you get those 'funny' n64 games he said: my brother worked for a magazine years back and got these test games to write about them. He had to return them after playing,but that lazy bum almost never did!
i look beter on the carts and 2 of them say in dutch: return after playing!
ok,thanks man,later and leave the shop LIKE A ZOMBIE
i think to myself these are the kind of story's you read about on the internet,now its happing to me!
at home now,i think you fool,you should of asked him if he had more!also snes or other systems! Ill do that Monday!
about the games can i get a price check guys? and have seen these already poped up as proto's?

-Tonic trouble with cool label art
-beetle adventure racing with a lot of info on it
-mystical ninja 2
-buck bumble
-and a cartridge with nothing on front,back says: teculapalle 7 and at&t?
i still need to play them,my little brother has the n64 at his home.
I do know that a wipe out n64 proto went for 82 english pounds on ebay,thats about 115 euro 2 weeks back.
Wow, thats an amazing find! I cant imagine how good it must feel to find that many protos in a store and especially for that cheap price. Congrats man!

DreamTR can answer this better than me i think, but samples also falls under the category protos due to that sample carts arent identical to the retail ,either when it comes to how the board looks and/or the code (game) isnt 100% identical as the retail version.
I'm pretty sure they're the most common form of protos for a given game, the alternative being "dev carts" and those are usually overwritten since they're kept in-house (much like videotape is reused for TV shows, etc).
