New forum Topic
I have an idea that I know has been mentioned many times but it has never been implemented. I have an idea for a new forum category, maybe it could be called "The Repair Shop" or something. It seems like every week or so someone posts a new thread asking how to get marker off of a cart, how to safely remove stickers from labels, how to clean pin connectors and so on. I think if there was a new category to centralize all of the often repeated questions people could find the category easily and hopefully have their questions answered and be on their way to enjoying playing their games. I think some of the thread topics in the "Repair Shop" category could be
What should I use to clean my cart-based game's connector?
How can I remove stickers from game labels?
What should I use to clean my console?
How do I repair/replace my 72 pin connector?
How do I get marker/stickers off of a box?
I think if we had a forum category like this it would be very helpful to everyone and we can all add our ideas, hints, tips and success stories.

At the very least a detailed sticky in the Help Wanted forum would be nice.
Most people just post that stuff under help wanted
True, and we get many, many, many repeats of the same few questions.
I just thought if there was a forum category about how to fix problems, clean things and whatever, it would be a lot easier on everyone.
You could also add your opinion, tip or comment in whatever topic you would like.
My thought is maybe someone could arrange a post that we would pin to the top of the Help Wanted for links to other threads that contain the information people need.
Would that work?
However if you where to create some kind of general maintence, and repair catagory. That could also cover modified systems and custom work, this thing might take off, your deffently onto something.
Example:
Instead of
Forum » Help Wanted!(Category) » Repair Shop (Stickyed thread) which is crammed with repairs, what to use, and all that mess in a single thread that could be hard to find what you need.
We use
Forum » Help Wanted!(Category) » Repair Shop(Sub Category) » Threads in that sub category to show all the various how-tos, buyers/repair guides or whatever.
Maybe just a thought... This kinda opens up a new idea for site suggestions so sub-categories would have to be set for more than 1 thing here in order to be implemented to begin with.
A stickie in help wanted titled something like "Common Console Problems and answers" to get them all condensed.
I still think even then we would run into several different sub-categories. If we just had one stickied topic we would have to have a link for all of the topics like
how to fix 72 pin connectors
how to clean carts
hw to clean boxes
how to clean consoles
how do I fix the blinking light
how to ..........infinity
My opinion is to have a Forum Sub Category for these common questions/problems. In that sub category we could have topics that address each of these issues, issues not mentioned here and any future issues that may need discussion.
What we need is sub-categories to put threads in so it won't be convoluted.

Brilliant!!! You read my mind as I was typing.

I like the idea of sub-categories.. but maybe in the meantime, instead of implementing more code into the forums, maybe a you can make 1 thread stickyed (Maybe locked?), and link to multiple threads. It wouldn't matter if the threads are bumped or not as long as long as that one sticked thread links to the other "How to" topics you listed.
Still like sub categories tho. XD
I like the idea personally but understand that adding new forums isn't something that Dain likes to do.

I think a stickied thread would work just fine. I see this as a really good way to keep some of the "how do I clean carts" type of threads to a minimum. It seems like for awhile there, I was seeing one every damn week.
The idea of a actual "repair guide" does seem cool. Maybe a book or files of .pdf pages that could resemble the old school system manuals for the NES? Something to put in the Ezine maybe? We have to put it somewhere where there isn't a lot of code to throw in and multiple threads (sticked or not) thrown about.
I'm pretty good at making figure drawings for game/system manuals. I'll see what I can come up with, but if anyone has any suggestions let me know.
