Watermelon N64 that will not take advantage of the expansion pack

Hello,
I know the expansion pack works because I tested it on another N64 and it boots DK64 without any issues.  Has, anyone had this issue besides me?

    Watch your language!
  • The jumper pack work's fine with it and it works with the expansion pack but, it will not play the game's that require the expansion pack.
  • Are any of the pins bent? Did you try multiple packs? The last thing I's say is take it apart, look for any bad solder joints and clean the connector with alcohol and a toothbrush. If it doesn't work after that, RIP N64. You can always just put another Mother Board in there though from a grey one if need be.
  • Yeah, 3Gen already covered the problem. Though I feel a dumb question needs to be asked...

Are you sure the cart slot and DK64 are clean? Do you have Majora's Mask or Perfect Dark to test with your Watermelon 64 as well?
  • Hello,

I put, the motherboard from my gray N64 in the watermelon N64 and no issues.

If their was I would say that system is cursed. Anyways just for a ref the motherboard is a reversion NUS-CPU-08.
  • You know, if the replacement motherboard is an early enough revision, you could have an RGB modded Watermelon N64.

Don't pitch the old one, there's a possibility of repair, or at least it could be used for parts.
  • Huh, very interesting... I never seen a N64 run a expansion pack as if it where a jump pack in a particular system before.

And I've also never heard a black N64 called gray before either until now. I mean, the black system comes with gray controllers, but I've never seen a gray system!
  • I think the standard N64 is actually smokey gray... Or dark gray, whichever you prefer. It's not perfectly black like a Sega console.

Yeah, a gray N64 would have been nice, though it would have looked a little too much like the PS1.

That's what I thought it's been called all this time. What is it officially named as? Anybody know?
