PS3 160GB Or 320GB ?

Ok so my mom is getting my son a ps3 for christmas this year and im wondering if she should get a 160 or a 320.
They have that nice package deal for 199.99 with a few games .

Should we go with the 160 or the 320?
Do you really use up alot of space ?

The best deal i found for a 320 is with the move package with  " Lets Dance "  $299.99

  • It depends really. I don't download anything, just use the HD for game saves and I haven't had any problems with the 160. I'd save the extra cash and put it towards some games.
  • Not casually. You do over the years though if you buy a lot of dl titles.

The PS3 HDD however can be upgraded anytime with your own 2.5" sata drive. Easy upgrade.
  • I have the 60 gig fat and the 160 gig slim, and they both still have plenty of space. As long as you don't go crazy with downloading every movie you can think of or something like that you'll be fine. I'd save the money and get the 160, then buy some games or something.
  • Hopefully they fixed it, but when the 250GB hard drive was the largest one available, they had issues with instability and it seems like they always went bad. It was a Toshiba HD in that unit. Maybe they fixed the issue with the larger drive, but if not, that's something also to consider. The 160 gig has always been solid.
  • i have an 60gb filled with all GH DLC content. and thats about what i downloaded in the last 4 years. so unless you,re a big heavy PSN buyer, dont get the 320gb. it'll be useless.
  • Yeah 160GB should be more than enough for the vast majority of the gaming population. It only runs out of space if you buy a lot of games and install them all on your HD, or DL tons of demos and DLC. A young gamer probably wouldn't be doing that.
  • I only have 30 of my 60GB xbox used, I'd say go 160. A 320 drive is a $50 upgrade when needed, not too bad for the price you'll need to add to get that version of the PS3.
  • thanks for the info everyone.

Dont plan on doing alot of downloading so im gonna go for that 160gb bundle that's gonna be 199.99 on friday.

  • The good thing about Sony is that they let you upgrade the hdd very easily using the built-in backup/restore tool as well as being able to install just about any 2.5" SATA hdd.

I have a 500GB drive with about 30GB free, but I'll admit I download a lot of HD game trailers, demos, and other DLC.

Items that would eat up HDD space the fastest would be the newer, full game digital downloads and they are becoming popular on PSN. Games such as inFamous 2 can take up nearly 10GB. Certain games will also offer a full data install option for faster loading (GTA IV comes to mind).

160GB should be plenty for a while and then there is always the option for upgrading.
