What game is this?

Alright, this one might be a little hard to identify, because I don't know many details about it. The game was ported to the Android Market as an app. I don't remember what the app was called, but it was a Famicom game (not sure if it's disk system).

The gameplay was a fast-paced 2D action game. The character looked like a samurai and had a pet bird (or falcon) you could sometimes attack with. (No, this game isn't 8 Eyes). The graphics were nice for the NES. I'd say about as good as Little Samson, Bubble Bobble 2, etc.. Maybe not quite as good. I think you could pick up scrolls for power-ups and/or points.

The first level was one featuring canyon-like land with lots of trees in the background, and later on in the level, water would rise and fall. Water would bring death, of course. After each level, there was some mini-game type thing. I don't remember what exactly it entailed, though.

I know that's not many details, but I'd really like to buy the Famicom game... Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, as it can narrow down the possibilities.

  • Its a Famicom game called Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru, AKA Yo! Noid in the USA.
  • Brilliant! Thank you! I had no idea that was Yo Noid!. I can definitely see the similarities now. My mind is blown.
  • Yeah, when I was first told about it, my mind was blown also. Hybrid actually made a gamegenie code for it that turns on a hidden intro screen. The screen is left in from the Famicom version.

  • Awesome! Well, once I snatch the Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru and Yo Noid!, I'll give it a shot. I'm gonna want to play them back-to-back now. I wonder how much the level structure was modified; not just the sprites, tiles, etc.
  • I had a feeling that it sounded like Yo Noid. The more you know!
