Fixing damaged NES cartridge

Hi fellow NA's. I bought a Mega Man 5 that has little cart damage on it

So my idea was to push that little crack thing back on  and put some ducktaoe inside of the cart. But do you think it's enough.

  • Or (this is a long shot)

Get a generic $0.99 game, a blowdryer and patience and slow and very carefully peel off the MegaMan 5 sticker on to some wax paper (this may take up to 15 mintues) and then place the sticker on the generic cart cover. and blamo- instant repair.

Of course, I never tried this but I have thought of doing it to my Legend of Zelda (grey) cart that has similar damage.
  • JosephLeo indeed has quite the longshot... have you confirmed the cart. plays? The label looks perfect, you've got a good game here, but i'd make sure it plays before you do surgery.
  • I bought it for 20.20$ shipped from NA, i believe it works and i think it's easier just a print a new label for a generic 0.90$ cart.

  • You won't get a quality label for cheap though. I'd just keep it like that myself unless you wanna risk it like that peeling it off. A new label is the worst IMO as it's just unoriginal will take value away if anything.
  • Fake label equals zero value
  • yeah what pete said, and dont the game boards sit diff in each cart?
  • No, all cartridges fit the PCBs the same way, even 5 screw carts. You can fit a Gemfire in a World 3D Runner if you wanted.
  • Printing fake labels? Ugh.. Terrible idea. It's bad enough that scammers make fake boxes. Not that you are a scammer of course, I'm just saying that fake labels and the like pollute the hobby.
  • The crack gives it character!
  • Paul is always looking for worse downgrades.

  • I would fix it that way :

    1- Open the cartridge

2- Push back that plastic crack so the cart look like normal again

    3- Take crazy glue

4- Put glue from the INSIDE & wait till it dry

    5- Enjoy!

    that my opinion.

The crack will still be visible for sure but a lot less than what its look like from what I see on the pictures.

I had similar issue as you before but on a nes system & it worked great !

  • You won't even need the superglue, actually. Just push it out, and it should hold itself in place.
  • Lugi Master is right but for extra measure do what secksies said with the super glue but make sure you let it dry before you put the cover back on. DON'T DO the blow drying technique worked in a video game store we experimented with it and had a industrial blow dryer and luckily we experimented on cheap games but don't do it it downgrades the value and doesn't look all that great and for starters there is not enough patience in the world that will make it work right. Also like stated above it adds character.
  • Keep in mind that superglue fumes degrade electronic circuits, so if you go that route either let the glue dry all the way or use accelerator to instantly dry it.
