Just from a quick Google search, it looks like all the prices I find on Amazon and the like are traced back to that eBay listing... Other Pokedexes(?) I found online didn't look like that, but they went for about $50, which I find astonishingly high enough as it is. As far as I could tell, they weren't sealed, either. But $50 is FAR BELOW that price.
I'm sure that they're just BS-ing the listing; evidence being the price. Just because it's the only one listed currently doesn't mean there aren't several thousands more out there. Take, for instance, Famicom games. Sometimes those can be hard to get by, but there's a ton of them out there. I'm not a Pokemon fan in the slightest, I got out of it once Gold and Silver came out, so I could be completely wrong. The whole thing just seems too nuts for me, especially considering the item's not that old and, considering it was produced by Hasbro, can't be that limited either. That's just my two-cents, though. Take it for what it's worth.
You know, I could swear these things are not rare based off the fact that when I was a kid me and my two brothers each had one- and we gave another one to our other pokemaniac cousin for his birthday. I had both the red and gold one at one point.
This is definitely BS. Maybe they are "rare" but most definitely not Stadium Events rare.
I think I'll list up some of my rare toenail clippings for $25,000 today, you won't find anyother like them anywhere else!!

Would laugh if someone were to buy this, then stumbled across some wholeseller at a flea market who had a palette of them uncirulated in storage for years that would sell the whole thing for like $20. I WOULD SERIOUSLY LAUGH.

There's lots of games that only pop up once a year that only sell for a few hundred or thousand.
