I Want To Become A Part of the Community
Hey, guys.
Obviously, I've been posting pretty actively now, and I want to continue to do so, but I've run into a bit of a roadblock.
I really want to get involved with the NA community - get to know people and feel like I'm a valued contributor to the overall atmosphere and conversations. Basically, I want to feel like an actual member not just a member, if you catch my drift.
About the chat, I've signed on probably about five times and for only about five or ten minutes max. Only once did I talk, and it was in the chatting part of the application, not the voice/webcam. I'm a pretty shy person, so it's just a bit uncomfortable for me. Should I give it a few more tries? Do people play video games while they're chatting?
I really like this forum so far and I'm glad I'm making an effort. I can see that people who are really involved, well-known, and are truly a part of the community - those who essentially make up the community - thoroughly enjoy it. I want to be one of those people eventually.
Essentially... I'm just wanting suggestions and critique. Are my posts too brief? Do I not give out thorough enough opinions? Too few opinions? Should I start more topics? Any comments are appreciated.

Depending on where you are in Tennessee, I'd love to meet up one day and maybe go game hunting.
Give chat a few more tries, personally i love to hop in there and make them watch me play games. Others do that all the time too.
Starting topics or making posts just for the sake of upping your count is definitely not what I would recommended.
Chat can certainly be fun, people play games in there for sure. Lots of other shenanigans also...
Try to make a get together or convention, I see you are in Tennessee, so it couldn't be much easier for you to make next year
I'm in Nashville, TN, but only for college. I have that as my location basically because I consider it home as opposed to where my legal address is in central Illinois. I'll probably give the chat another try soon; mainly during my Christmas break.
And don't worry, I'm not going a post-whore. =P
Of course, you could certainly write an article as well. We're always looking for contributors and it would be a great way to feel a part of the community.

What college in Nashville??? I live in Lebanon about 20 minutes east of Nashville.....
Hey, guys.
People game in chat, bullshit in chat, and just chill. Don't be shy. Seriously. We allow Tai in chat and sometimes talk to him, so you should be good. Now get in there and have a good ol time.
Start some good topics and post good responses, and post more often. Aside from this thread, I've barely seen you around.
Don't be a copycat of any kind, just be yourself and people will accept you.
come into chat and make fun of PeteDiak.......................everybody's doing it!!
All the kool kids are doing it!!

Alright. I'll try to get in the chat more. Unfortunately, I'll be busy off/on 'til Christmas break, so I dunno when I can stop by. And I'm surprised - I've actually thought I've posted too much! Sounds good.

Oh, and not to double-post, but since I'm pretty young and I've never had an actual job, my collection's pretty week. About 170 NES carts, among handful of 350 games. So... I dunno, even though I'm two years in, I feel like a retro gaming noob still.
I don't have a huge collection of games, mostly a sizable number for a wide variety of consoles but hey, we all have to start somewhere.

True that. I guess the point in talking about my smaller collection is essentially to say, consequently, I won't have as much gaming experience because I refuse to emulate (exceptions being hacks).

I have no qualms with emulating, but I don't really enjoy the experience all that much, so I usually don't bother, with the exception of MAME etc, where it's very difficult to come by the games otherwise, from price and rarity. Using PowerPaks and 64Drives and Everdrives and whatnot are perfectly fine by me too, though I still collect the stuff I want to have real carts of.
all i can say is moobs they love moobs
And your sexy truffle shuffle
One great thing about forums, against other ways of communicating like Twitter, Facebook, or MSN/ICQ is that you can take your time to write thorough answers, questions, opinions, etc. I don't know how are your posts, but the only things I can recommend are these:
- proper grammar, no SHOUTING, no l33t, in other words, proper use of English.
- think your posts well. Lenghty posts aren't a must.
- be yourself, don't feel pressured to fit... we're all nerds after all, most of us (I think, with a few exceptions anyways ) aren't Mr. Popular in school/work. Just keep it civil, and you'll be welcomed warmly.
- Be yourself, be honest, and be nice to others and things will work out
just fine for you. Don't feel like you have to meet some quota to be
part of NA. Everyone is different and unique. We all have different
amounts of time, money, interests and perspectives....and that's one of
the things that makes this place great IMO.
You've made a couple helpful posts in topics I started in the Gamer's
Gauntlet forum and you labeled your spoiler, so you're A-OK in my book!!

This simply isn't going to cut it. Owning such a weak collection is never going to get you respect from NA members. You need to get up to at least 300 carts or so before you will get any real recognition. As a matter of fact, they probably won't even allow you at the NA camp-out until you get this taken care of.

Can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. I've played and beaten about 140 of them, even the really crappy ones. I dunno. *shrug* But yeah, it is fairly weak. But I own two arcades, so that took a lot of my funds away. But I won't be getting another one of those in a LOOONG time.
I made moderator on SA pretty quickly, I'd only been a member for maybe six months. I think the key is to put yourself out there and just have a friendly, positive attitude. Just be the cool dude that you are and people will respond to it. I think you're an awesome guy and I would consider you a welcome addition to our community any day. We love having you over at SA, you won me over already. Just put yourself out there man and the rest will follow.

Just post, try to hunt with other people here. Have a finds thread and update it with cool stuff you find

Thank you for that clarification. I was like, "Oh... sadness..."
