Ebay item with bonus marker.

Hi Guys,

I bought this from ebay. Here is an excerpt from the description:

BOX IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH HARDLY ANY SIGNS OF WEAR. MANUAL IN GOOD CONDITION HAS BEEN USED. CARTRIDGE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

Can you see anything in my photo that doesn't seem right??? The ebay photo was of the front of the box, the cartridge and the manual. To his credit he offered a full refund, but F&ck how could you miss that? Has anyone got any ideas on how to remove it?

  • I have heard that you can write over it with a dry erase marker and then wipe it off. I have not done this, yet. I realy want to. Just havent picked up the d.e.m. yet. I'd also practice on something else first.
  • Dry erase marker does remove permanent marker.

I don't know if it will remove it from a box. The marker has probably been there for years.

    Good luck.
  • Get over it. Who will care but you?
  • Dry erase marker for the win, also I have had good luck with a cotton ball and a TOUCH of rubbing alcohol without ruining the artwork or the cardboard. But for the love of god do the dry erase marker first. Do the second at your own risk.

I am over it, just wanna clean it up. However I don't appreciated ebay sellers omitting such a big defect from their description.

I think you would care too.

Ebay sellers should give a accurate representation of the items they are selling.

The guy came looking for help. If you're not going to contribute, then go elsewhere.

There is no need for the negative attitude.
  • I have used the dry erase marker trick on cards from a boardgame. It should work on a glossy box.

I'd be tempted to just leave it be. You might make it worse. At least it is on the back of the box.
  • Just for info purposes, dry eraser doesn't totally remove it in this case.
  • Let's say you just displayed the front of the box on your bookshelf. Then when a friend comes by and asks if there are any imperfections, how would you feel?
  • Honestly the first time I looked at the picture I did'nt notice it ( I probably need glasses ), It looked like part of the box.

If I were you I'd either leave it alone so it does'nt get any worse than it is now. Or take the refund and look for another.

Good luck man, let us know what you do.
  • I've kept it, sending back etc is a pain in the bottom region. I'm over it now of course. If it were a higher ticketed item I'd be more pissed of course.

Thanks for your positive addition to the conversation...
  • I'm not sure of a good solution that doesn't harm the box in some way to remove marker since that's been absorbed into the cardboard. From the sounds of it, dry erase and light rubbing alcohol would do the trick, but since it's just a Solstice box, I'd probably just leave it, but that's me.
  • I also tried dry erase marker after reading this thread and it made a box look even worse in my case. Won't be doing that again.
