  • Well this is annoying I sold a Portable DVD player recently on ebay. I used ebay's additional information for the model and skimmed over it and everything looked fine. Well fast forward the item sold but apparently ebay's additional information was wrong and the DVD player does not support a specific format. Well the buyer bought it for that very reason. So now because ebay's information was wrong and I missed it, i am out shipping both ways and going to get an Item not as described defect.

So take note if you use ebay's additional information be sure to check every single line and feature or it can bite you in the ass.

I've heard of people getting burned on that before. I'll use their catalog to identify an item but leave out the additional details. And then ebay nags you about it. What's worse is you occasionally find an item they don't have in the catalog and it will apply something similar automatically. DBZ Budokai Tenkiachi 3 for PS2 is not in their system so it keeps getting labelled as the PS3 version. There are also tons of entries that have wrong barcodes attached. Apparently there used to be a way to submit corrections but it's no longer where all the old answers direct you to.
  • Ebays semi mandatory catalog is a joke. I hate how they took away/hide descriptions too but leave that huge ass information block of item info if you forget to uncheck it.

They feel their catalog is more important than an actual item description

I once had a buyer buy an nes system. Description snd picture clear as day on whats included. Item info said sometging about a light gun. They pitched a fit that there was no light gun. Since then i always take off the item info.

Speaking of light guns, I had a buyer start complaining to me that the zapper I including in an NES bundle was broken. They were using it on a modern HDTV and after I replied that HDTVs usually have issues because of refresh rates, etc., they never responded or left feedback. It's frustrating that people just think old tech will work flawlessly with new tech because the new tech is "smarter!" There was also a lady who donated a 2600 to a charity that I bought it from who said it was broken because it wouldn't work on her 70inch 3D HDTV...bought it on the cheap and worked perfectly for me on my CRT!

I should start doing that too...
  • I recently spotted a non-working Sega Genesis/SMS lot on Ebay with a title that INSISTED you read the description. The description was "I couldn't get these to work."

Uh... okay. That was useful. Contacted the seller.

Me: "So what's wrong with these? Do they not power on? Do games not boot up?"

Seller: "I don't know. I couldn't get them to work."

How do you not even know if they power on? What in the fuck did you do to them that you can't even tell me if they power on but are absolutely certain that they don't work? I've decided to actively avoid listings from this seller.
  • Funny I just got burned by the catalogue system too. I sold a Bose Cinemte GS and apparently it was the wrong one? In the pictures I showed the bar code, serial number and model number in 20 mega pixels. Clear as day. Then got an email today about how they're gna leave me a neg and how I'm misleading all my buyers. I just said like ok dude, I have 100% feedback and you just email me and says youre gna keep the item and neg me? You cant be that disappointed. Lol
  • My favorite local place pulled a fast one on me. I got an alert yesterday that they had monster jam for the x360 in stock for $10. I put in a hold request and it came back not found and it wasn't in inventory anymore. at some point after that they updated the price to $30 and I get another alert this morning that it's in stock again. It's the second copy I've seen in 6 months so I'm pretty sure they didn't get two copies in on consecutive days.

edit: might be wrong, it looks like it may have been two copies and somebody just beat me to the first one. weird how that goes.
  • Had a CL deal to sell some xbox controllers to this dude. He seemed to be pretty interested because he responded very fast to my texts. We agreed on a time and place and as soon as I said I had arrived I never received another text. I waited about 30 minutes (longer than I normally wait only because there was a shit ton of traffic) then I fell asleep waiting for him and apparently waited another hour, but no response. At least I got a good nap out of it. What a dick.

Ugh then this dude was selling an N64 for $40 but it was in pretty rough condition. I wanted a project so I offered him $20 for it and he agreed. But I got into an accident and had to wait until the other car was able to be towed. So I had asked if we could reschedule tip tomorrow. He said no, he had to accept some other offers. But he responded in a very rude tone. So the next day apparently he showed up to the place we were supposed to meet the day before and proceeded to send rude/hate texts to me asking where I was and that I was a jerk (not the word he used) for not showing up. I guess he had no other offers...it has been renewed about 3 times since then. Looks like he should've taken the deal before he was a dick. Oh well.
  • Idk why everyone on ebay is so serious. So I recently started trolling people who msg me to try to lighten the mood. It drives me nuts that people send me msgs and expect to get some automated response.
  • Is there a trend right now where people dont like to pay for their auctions that they won and then not answer messages? I've had to open multiple unpaid item cases because buyers just dont feel like paying or even giving me the common courtesy to tell me they don't want the items anymore!

I also don't like how eBay takes away your option to leave feedback for bad buyers...very frustrating
  • What is the point of blocking sales outside the US when people outside the US can just hit BIN on your crap anyway? Fucking feeBay.

Dont worry. It was their child who bought it on accident. It always is
  • They really need to bring back negative feedback for non-payers.

Seriously! I had to open another unpaid case this morning because the buyer will not respond to my messages. Then when it's all said and done, I can't leave negative feedback. I can more understand not paying for items that are hundreds or thousands of dollars, but my items are $10-20 so why play this game with a cheap item if you aren't going to pay!

  • Asking me 5 times in 24 hours to come down in price from an already reasonably priced BIN is ridiculous. I just don't get that mentality.

You should go all Borg on them and be like, "Persistence is futile!" Lol
  • I opened yet another unpaid case today, because after days and days of contacting my buyers they just dont feel like responding! Why not just tell me you dont want it so we can both move on!?

Buyers like that need to have an old CRT tossed in their front yard.

  • Update on one of my unpaid cases (the other one I had open never paid) - the buyer finally paid and apologized a bunch for not paying and said that they forgot they bid on the item and the ebay account is attached to an email they rarely check. WHO DOES THAT!?

I seriously feel there should be more consequences for buyers. It's the sellers that keep eBay alive NOT the buyers because eBay gets paid from the sale of stuff and without sellers, there would be no buyers! Could be a chicken or egg thing, but I can't stand not being able to leave negative feedback for dumb buyers...
  • Not being able to leave feedback is both good and bad. Bad because you can't call out stupid bidders but good from the fact that as a buyer you can't face retaliatory negative feedback.

Back in the late 90's early 2000's feedback was pointless because if you left a seller negative feedback for a valid reason they would give you negative feedback in retaliation.

Bad bidders on ebay are just like bad buyers at a walmart. On ebay you are a seller of an item as a seller part of your business is dealing with bad patrons. You hope it's not often but it happens and there isn't much you can do about it unless it is something to the level of police needing to be contacted (threats of violence, fraud, etc).

Try not to dwell on it and just keep listing.
  • Update to my post here a week ago: The same person who messaged me 5 times in 24 hours went ahead and bought the item at the listed price the next day (with a note along the lines of "you win"). They have since received the item and left positive feedback.
  • Well, they locked my thread about AtariAge and said he doesn't want to get involved in "forum bashing", yet, this thread is stickied and is nothing but bashing/ranting. So here is my "rant" about atartage.com:

I don't deal much with atari stuff. It's mainly junk and I don't like the crappy graphics on the 2600. I had a chance to buy Mr. Do's Castle for the 2600 complete with the box, but couldn't find much info about it. I posted a thread here and did tons of internet research. Still, there isn't much info. I saw 1 copy for sale on eBay for nearly $700. That seemed pretty high to me, but it was the only thing i had to go from.

I went ahead and got the game at a price i thought was fair. I posted the game for offer at AtariAge.com. I only had a few posts over there and they require 10 post min to post in the "Marketplace", so i read through some threads and made a few responses to get my post count up. I posted the game for offer, stating that i wasn't familiar with Atari and was looking for guidance and offers. I included my NA credentials as well as eBay so that people would feel comfortable dealing with me. I haven't had a single issue over here with sales. I also stated that i would be posting on eBay if I didn't get any offers.

About a day post and I had no replies and no offers (it's pretty much a ghost town over there), so i got antsy and put it on eBay. That's when I started getting replies. The first guy called me out saying something like "Well that didn't take long". Others accused me of just posting it on AA.com just as an advertisement or to get exposure (which makes no sense because i would have just posted it in the auction spotlight section). Others said i was "spamming" the site to get my post count up (Crazt becasue my responses were legit and i figured they would like some additional contribution to a site no one visits). One guy called me a shit bag. It was pretty harsh and I didn't expect that kind of treatment at all.

I responded to only one of the comments stating that it is my perogotive to post the game for sale wherever I want and that i wasn't aware of any rule that said it had to be posted on AA for a certain amount of time before going to eBay. I got really defensive because NintendoAge is so great and has such great memebrs. I was completely shocked at all the hostility i received at AtariAge.com.

So if you haven't ventured to AA (and why would you), don't wast your time. There is an abundance of arrogant assholes and apparently that type of treatment is accepted as the mod didn't step in and say anything (i haven't been back since this happened, and never will, so maybe they did something by now). It's really disappointing as i thought the ___Age community was tight and more respectful than that.

That's the end of my rant. Thanks for reading.

I've learned that, given the size and rate of expansion, nintendoage is generally more welcoming since there are far more "newer" members who welcome "new" members are so on and so on; the number of dedicated 5+ year members is outweighed by members who have been here <2 years. On other forums, communities are much tighter and therefore less welcoming to new members, especially if they deem you to not have actual liking in the subject matter in question (I. E. You showed up to sell a game which can be construed as you only caring about the value and not necessarily atari as a whole, which is kind of evident to be honest)

It just is what it is. Be thankful nintendoage is huge and welcoming.
