  • This was at my local Salvation Army last night.  They've been hiking their prices for a while now but holy hell this is a new all time low for them.

  • People should also view the new return policy. A return can automatically happen if the buyer is willing to pay the return shipping cost. So no matter what the reason is if the buyer clicks buyer pays shipping cost the return will be processed. Ebay is going down.

If the 4th game is Mario's Time Machine, that's not a bad deal.

No, its only the 3 game carts. The "4th game" is Duck Hunt lol.

  • Another PayPal case opened and closed in the middle of the night. I'm out the money and the item. I can't say I'm surprised since the name and address made no sense at all...

WAIT. Doesn't that new eBay policy mean that everyone here that offers 10% off their eBay listings could be charged? What a joke.
  • Feel free to block this moron.

I put up a listing for a broken DS. The phrase "parts or repair" is in the listing. It is repeated in all caps in the listing along with the phrases "as-is" and "no returns". This guy buys it and an hour or so later sends a message asking if it works. Now he wants his money back. How stupid do you have to be that you not only ignore multiple warnings that you are buying a broken item but also have to message a seller directly?
  • Ebay has ruined their search. They have tinkered with it so much they have actually broken it. I go to my active items. I type in exact words and stuff doesnt come up. And before you ask, I change category to ALL ITEMS and they still dont come up. It is mind boggling what they are doing. They have now implemented search results they think you want. Occasionally you will see a VIEW ALL RESULTS button to click. Other times they wont come up at all and are hidden.

This is really annoying on the buyer's end too.  I've been looking for some pretty uncommon, specific boxes/manuals for NES and now I need to check like 4 different categories to see if something is available.  Ebay is really becoming absolutely frustrating for us buyers, I can't imagine how you evil resellers are faring with all of the bullshit they're doing.

  • Cart/Box of Bonk's Adventure on NES, very cheap bid price so I was going to take a stab at it. Thankfully I messaged the seller, confirming that this would be shipped in a box. His reply was gold. "I am going to ship in a padded envelope, but if you win I will make sure to stuff extra padding in there." Needless to say I decided not to bid...
  • When did they change it so that a seller absolutely has to pay shipping on returns? I write buyer pays for return shipping on my listings but apparently that's moot because I have no way to enforce that. Christ, I'm just trying to keep people from returning stuff for frivolous reasons.

I wonder how this impacts the people who don't offer the return shipping option (which used to be code for, the buyer can force a return but has to pay return shipping)?

If they open a case to return it you're stuck paying return shipping regardless I think?

the seller only pays return shipping if the buyer opens the return as an "item not as described" claim. if they bought by mistake or their kid bought it with their phone the buyer has to pay return and possibly a restocking fee if you charge one. the real problem is every body just returns stuff under the guise of item not as described so they dont have to pay.

I think you guys overestimate the knowledge of the average eBay buyer in your frustration over having to provide refunds regardless of your personal policies.  In most cases, the end user wholeheartedly believes that whatever they received isn't "as described" when choosing that, whether they're actually right about that or not.  The small number of returns I've ever had to request (maybe 2-3 in ~20 years) were all under that category because of the sellers pulling a bait & switch; with notable exception when somebody tried to rip me off on $20+ in expedited shipping costs, all of my refund requests have come because the seller didn't/wouldn't send me what I'd won/bought.  Until joining NA and reading through various general threads, I had no idea that there was any difference in how returns were handled based on what reason was chosen.  I can just about guarantee that your average eBay user has absolutely no idea and isn't doing so to screw over anyone, no matter how much it might feel like that when people do something perceived as stupid.

yeah everyones experience will vary. luckily ive only had to deal with a handful in my years on ebay , but 2 or three of the returns ive delt with went like this.

buyer buys and pays for item.

i ship the item the same day.

the next day the buyer request to cancel the order because their child bought the item and they didnt know what they were doing.

i tell them the shipping has already been payed for and the item is in route.

when the item arrives to the person they open an item not as described case. so they dont have to pay return shipping. im out shipping both ways.

oddly enough, i think every time this has happened to me it was when i was selling n64 consoles. it probably has something to do with the mentality of a casual looking to revisit retro. they comit to buy then find one locally or change their mind entirely.

Correct.  And if they open a case with PayPal as well, they can send you back a box of rocks and keep the item.

Skip ahead to the next sentence.

"If you're returning an item because it isn't as described in the listing, the seller is responsible for return shipping charges, regardless of the seller's return policy."

A buyer can lie their way through the system by selecting item not as described, even if it is.

ok gotcha, it was confusing cause someone mentioned opening a case, but nobody in that comment span specified an "item not as decribed" case. but yeah like i was saying a few messages back thats a real problem. people getting buyers remorse and opening "item not as described" cases to get out of paying return shipping. it rough for people who are not running a game store and dont really have a profit margin. it just means cash out of our pockets.

i could be mistaken, but i think if you get hit with too many item not as described claims in a certain period of time you lose your top rated seller status too.
  • Haha this isn't so much of a problem but I didn't think it was possible for a Dreamcast********** to look like this. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/253205279564

Maybe it was the super ultra exclusive zelda edition

I'd almost be down to buy it, because that Dreamcast***** if it does still work, is a stubborn machine that doesn't know the meaning of quit.

That looks like a Dreamcast, yo.

I also didn't think it was possible for a Saturn to look like a Dreamcast.
  • Haha I mislabeled it. I'm super tired and can't sleep, I'd have to say I'd agree with you it wouldn't look like a Saturn. One would probably say it was an honest mistake, and wouldn't assume that someone can't tell the difference. But that's just me.
  • Sold a mario kart double dash complete to canada. Buyer says it doesnt work everytime. Only sometimes. Fuckin A. They now are returning it. So i have to refund the original shipping that I didnt get to keep , and now have to pay their freaking canada post cost to ship it back. Going to cost me shipping 3 ways total for a game I tested and worked just fine. Lost the whole profit margin on the game plus some.

I hate international buyers sometimes. They fuckin suck. I only have problems internationally now.

Maybe just don't sell to international buyers?  U.S. is plenty big enough you wont lose any business.

  • MoW is correct in saying that but, yeah, I can't help but sympathize with you, Quest4NES. I like to offer some stuff to Canada because I like to hope/think I'm helping out fellow collectors, especially since I'm just guy selling extra stuff, rather than a big business.

I've had no issues selling internationally here, though.
  • Goodwill doesn't always have good stuff, and sometimes forces me to go to other locations to find something interesting. The games I did get from goodwill does work just fine after a cleaning, so I guess it was all worth it!

    The games I got were

    Sports Talk Baseball

    WWF Super WrestleMania

    Monopoly

    and RBI Baseball 4

Bah, that's not as bad as Savers is getting. My local store had Super Mario World & Super Mario All Stars behind the jewelry counter labeled $49.99 each. Sad thing is the games were gone by the next evening.

Yeah everyone's hip to the game now.

I actually spoke to the manager there since i posted that and asked him about it. Just wanted to know how they came up with the price. He basically told me since the jig is up and they know the retro games are so sought after now they have started putting high price tags on everything with the intention of taking offers on them. There's now also a little bundle of decent SNES games there too. Nothing crazy like $10-$15 games, but they have them priced at $25 each. Only good thing about it is any games they get in will sit for a while so at least l get a chance to see them.

This reason you gave is exactly why I no longer ship internationally on Ebay. If there is a problem the cost is more than its worth. How many issues have you been having with international buyers?
