Last night I saw a game with a BIN of $0.99 with "best offer" as an option. I thought I would offer $0.50 for the game, but when I went to put in my offer, it said that the minimum offer was $0.99. I know we are talking about something that costs less than a dollar, but still.........
This is another way some sellers game ebay's search algorithm. If you offer certain things your listing will appear higher in search algorithms (taking best offer, free shipping, taking returns, etc). So what some buyers do is enable best offer but then make the minimum price the same as the buy it now so they appear higher in ebay's search.
I know what you are saying, but in my situation, this wasn't the seller rejecting my offer. This was eBay now allowing me to even enter a number lower than $0.99. I that situation, why would ebay allow a seller to have "best offer" if their BIN is already at the lowest possible value?
Silly seller shipped my cart from the Netherlands to U.S. in a bubble mailer. The photo says it all.
Edit: I don't know why the photo is so crappy but you can still get the idea
Holy shit... it's funny because it's so stupid. I have a dragon warrior that won't save ( I have like 5 copies ) I think I'm going to donate it to the cause. I had a buyer win a lot of pez my wife has and the buyer 9 days later asks, can I still pay for this lot? I responded I dont know can you?
Thats not an expensive game. Id have shipped it in a mailer too. I ship games in mailers all the time international and domestic. Only had one break. It was actually domestic. Post Office felt like crushing it.
Now for an international shipment of a cart game. For me worldwide its going to cost nearly 12 dollars in a mailer. In a box, thats going to make it go over 8 ounces which means cost jumps to 21-22. I know shipping anything from canada to the US is ridiculous in cost and Id assume most of the world has some of the same cost metrics.
I wouldnt blame the seller shipping method for that at all. That is completely out of the norm to happen and a just fine way to ship a normal common cart. Sucks when it happens, but its not an incorrect way to ship something like that. Just tell the seller. If they dont refund, open a return and request a refund and send it back if the seller wants it back. I personally always will do this to stop some scammers. Alot of people fish for quick refunds and drop it when you request the return, even when Im paying for it.
Is it out of the norm to ship a cart in a bubble mailer? If it was like Stadium Events or a gold NWC I would maybe use a box, but for 99% of cart games I use bubble mailers.

I personally use a $50 value cutoff for bubble mailer vs. small box, but I'd probably bump that up to $100 with the postage rate increase.
You can imagine my large sigh and mood as soon as I realized the post office, in the rain, jammed the large 11 x 10 envelop containing an n64 box into my mailbox of 4 in x 5 in .
I will gladly pay extra in shipping to prevent things like this.

At my last apartment my mailman used to think it was ok to do the same with 7" records (45s). He once bent a Rube Reuben record that was autographed by Rube and Dan Clowes (the cover artist) and inscribed to Satan. Not extremely valuable but irreplaceable none the less. I feel your pain and am here for you
I received another damaged cart packed in a bubble mailer today...fortunately it was only a ~$10 copy of Rally Bike. Two carts in a HUGE mailer with no extra protection and the two carts not secured together. Apparently the other cart won lol.

This would have been a lot funnier if the two carts were wrestling games.

Id say that is more just stupidity right there. You should use a mailer thats a normal size. Or atleast fold it over and tape it. If there are two carts, Id probably use a box unless they were 2 commons . Then Id bubble wrap them together and use a big mailer and fold it over.
That was some dumb shipping you got. Super unlucky week for you
Im with captainmorgan. I have a cutoff. If its over like 35-40 bucks, I typically use a box or a larger mailer folded over with extra bubble around the game.
Is it out of the norm to ship a cart in a bubble mailer? If it was like Stadium Events or a gold NWC I would maybe use a box, but for 99% of cart games I use bubble mailers.
I don't ship very often, but I do receive a lot of packages and most of the cart only games and Xbone/Switch/PS4 games I buy come in bubble mailers and I haven't had issues with them.
I think it's much different if you're shipping a cardboard box in a bubble mailer of course. I've had a few ebayers do that and luckily those all came alright. Retailers on the other hand loves to ship their limited edition boxes in bubble mailers for some reason and almost always arrive dented.
If it was like Stadium Events or a gold NWC I would maybe use a box, but for 99% of cart games I use bubble mailers.
Dude.
I can understand using mailers for cheap games, but anything over a threshold of about $50 needs a box. That threshold should not be anywhere near 10 grand, nevermind "maybe". If I ordered a copy of SE or NWC I would expect it to be delivered in packaging that could survive being run over by a train.
Ebay is making it harder on sellers again. Starting June 1st Top Rated Sellers are required to give a 30 day free return to be eligible for the Top Rated Seller benefits. Basically what this means is your buyer can try the item out and if they don't like it they can return it to the seller within 30 days and have the seller pay for the return as well.

I listened to something about it. They said currently 30 day free returns applies to all sales with TRS+ domestic and international. Cant have separate policies yet. In may you apparently going to be able to distinguish. Im not changing my stuff over until I can exclude international. Im not paying 15-20 bucks shipping both ways items. Alot of times that may be more than its worth. Since Ebay automates or tries to "streamline" returns where buyers dont contact you, they can just open everything and ship it back without communication. It sucks and Im not offering free returns internationally. That is freaking insane and wrong of ebay to do that.
You know, someone at goodwill did a real solid for me this morning. I asked to look at the video games behind the counter, and I was lucky enough to find Mario Kart Wii for $3. The girl helping me out noticed I wasn't just flipping stuff, so she vaguely asked "do you have a PS1 and like RPGs?" which I answered yes. She brought out a complete Final Fantasy VII! Not super rare, but kinda cool she did a bit of a scalper/flipper check.
Our goodwill would never do that, then again most of them are so old they are grandparents lol. i guarantee the good games are kept at the store hooked to the receiving and sorting center, when i worked there we never got good stuff as that store kept it. Amazon and ebay sellers who use stock images then get annoyed when you bring up while the item looks nothing like the image.
Bought a PVM 20L2MD off ebay. Third one i ever bought, the other 2 arriving totally fine.
Well this one the front panel was ripped off and the power button is jammed in from the impact. Fortunately it still works, but this is a huge annoyance to not have a power button. And who knows what else may have happened with this impact.
So the seller first responds asking how much it would be to fix. Nobody near me repairs these so that isn't an option. So it is either a return and refund which is a nuisance for both of us, or a partial refund. I told them i would take a partial refund but it would have to be substantial enough to make it worthwhile as i paid top dollar for this thing, otherwise i don't mind packing it back up and returning it. But i understood if they didn't want to do a partial as well.
It's been 4 days with no response. Have to open a claim tomorrow if they don't respond. They are a medical reseller who has shipped these a few times successfully before, so i figured it would be fine. Guess not, they just used packing peanuts for a 75 lb monitor......

Yeah that is the plan once i can tomorrow. They make you wait x amount of days before ebay will step in. I was concerned though that if this thing received more damage on the way back i would somehow be responsible. So i called and asked ebay to confirm and they told me no, to just pack it up the way it came and not to worry, that is on them.
The issue is i cut the box down 2 of the sides to open it up and get the PVM out. I can just tape the box up, but wasn't sure if the box is compromised now. I looked up boxes just in case and this size is pricey unfortunately.

You open a return request. They have to respond or you can escalate to a claim.

Double corrugated one from Lowes should only be 2-3 bucks in that size. But I would just tape that one back up since they didn't give much of a fuck about it in the first place.

Yeah i did like 4 days ago. Unfortunately Ebay makes you wait 5 days before you can escalate. Today is the final day and then i can up to a claim which is what i will be doing. I am not sure what ebay will do, i assume just make me return it with a prepaid return label and then make him give me a refund? I don't understand the sellers angle at all of responding to me with the option of a return or a partial refund, and then just never responding to me. And who does the refund come from, ebay? Or the seller? I assume the seller. I have never had a claim opened against me so i am not sure.

Thanks, i don't know why but on amazon and staples a 24x24x24 had them for $30. Seems insane for a piece of carboard. Good to know they are cheap locally.
Thanks again for the tip! I think i am just going to tape it up like you said though. Fuck it.

I concur, $30 is insane. Walmart has them for $2-3 in that size (or a bit larger, as I recall) as well. My brother and I went through a lot of them packing up my parents' stuff after Mom died and then again when he moved out of his old place, so I know were easily had for that as recently as 3-4 months ago.
Ahh you know what, i didn't see it before, but they were packs of 10 boxes from staples. I just looked quickly! Well in that case, i am just gonna grab one, don't want to give any reason for ebay or the seller to say it gets more damage because of how i packed it.
UPDATE- Well i didn't even get a response from the seller. I just got a refund and it said i didn't have to return the PVM. I am really glad because shipping this thing back would have sucked. I can't lift it so i would have had to get someone just to help me package it up, and then waited another week or two for the refund.
I wish they had just emailed me back though because i told them i would take a partial refund. Even though i asked for a substantial one, they could have at least gotten like 50% of their money back and both of us would have been happy with the outcome. Instead they just gave me all the money back? Weird business practice....o well i can't complain, i do feel bad though having all my money and a PVM that while does have functional damage, is still somewhat functional..

It's most likely that price online due to trying to get people to go to the stores. I can't imagine many folks pay that price for boxes, ya know? The Staples near me sells HUGE boxes for generally no more than $5 or $6. One of my buddies over the weekend was looking up box prices online for his M:TG card collections and just a 2 sleeve, 500 count box was in the range of $10 or $12, when the local shop has them for $0.75.
