    *ONE SALE LATER*

Idiot: "I want a refund because this item is missing the thingy."

    Least shocking update ever.

Ebay: "Hi there. We agree with this idiot."

  • BIN'd a CD-i lot for a more than fair price ($130). Seller asked for additional shipping money, sorry that isn't how Ebay works. He just relisted my CD-i at a $70 price hike. Thanks dude, can't wait file an item not received case so you don't get your Ebay fees back

Actually I haven't done this in a while. It looks like buyers can't "refuse" cancellation requests anymore? What is the proper way to screw the seller via Ebay for holding up my money hostage for a couple weeks? The latest shipping estimate day was 3 days ago. It looks like I just open a not received case, tick the "I still want the item box", and from that point the seller is unable to send me a cancellation?

right, sellers can cancel a sale on their own now. not much you can do other than leave negative feedback. can you still open a case if he's already cancelled?

If the seller cancels I don't think you can even do that?   They have an "out-of-stock" cancel option that wipes the whole transaction.

They didn't cancel yet. I opened a not received case and they haven't responded. If Ebay has to be involved to get my money back, I'm confident they will not get their fees back and I will have my $13 of pure justice

If you are lucky, the seller might see that he won't get his fees back, and if he is smart, he might realize that he won't make much more money selling at the higher price due to paying fees on it twice.  Maybe, just maybe he will just ship the thing to you.

  • Im about 1 more bad transaction from just not selling anything to South America anymore. The continent just sucks. Bulk of all the Not Received Orders. Nobody wants to communicate with you. They just open cases, dont respond back and escalate. I just have a feeling they get a customs due notice. They dont want to pay it. So they claim not received. Get the money back and use that to pay the customs. Boom free item.

Had another one today I had to refund. 33 dollars down the drain for an item theyll receive thats just held up in customs. International Sales should be buyer buys at own risk. I ship, I should be off the hook.
  • I received some headphones, loose, in a bubble mailer Saturday. Need to start a return on that shit. That one just really pissed me off.
  • Received my first ever neutral as a seller on eBay.

Buyer left feedback that says, "oK".

    Great, thanks.
  • Sold a game on ebay, a week later a return is filed stating "I didn't like it" really frustrating. Amazon constantly sends collector's editions that I buy in bubble mailers and they're always crushed into a million pieces
  • Every now and then I will sell something on eBay and this happens. After the buyer pays, they send me a message telling me that they want it shipped in a box. Uh... if you had a request, you should have said so before bidding, and certainly before paying. Especially when using a box would make something go Priority.

Another time I had someone tell me to combine shipping. Well, if you had asked before bidding I would have told you it was not available for this one item. At least they hadn't paid yet.

Never give the buyer options to cut down on the price; it'll give you a headache every time.

  • Over the weekend I had seen a BIN for a Famicom game and I snapped it up, being one of the few licensed games I needed for my collection. The price was a steal as well, especially with free shipping.

I immediately paid, received a message from the seller a day or two later telling me that (s)he had made an error while listing, actually having intended to set the price for about $100 more than what I paid. The seller then gave me an option to meet them in the middle and pay about $50 more, plus receive a free bonus Famicom cart out of a selection of three games, or to cancel the deal entirely. I told them I would accept the offer, as the price was still quite decent for the game, and then I became busy with real life things, and let it at that.

About a day or two ago I received a message from the seller asking me to send them over the extra $50, and it also said that since they hadn't heard back from me, they had selected one of the bonus games, packaged it with the other game, and had already sent my package out, also sent me the tracking code.

Today I sent them off the extra $50, and called it a day, but it did bring up a moral debate in my mind regarding this whole transaction.

When I had purchased the game, I saw the BIN price was incredibly low, most likely caused either by a mistake or by an unknowledgable seller. If the latter were the case, I don't really feel bad for them at all, and I would say they would be in the wrong for trying to demand more money afterwards. If it were a true mistake though, then although it sucks for the buyer, I feel that the solution they proposed was fair, with the free game being a nice gesture (though the games were all titles I already had, and not of particular interest to me).

Sending the package out first without receiving the extra payment, well I honestly feel this was a dangerous thing to do on their part, as I am sure a lot of people (even on this site) would say, "Well he tried to cut the deal, tried to take more money, but the BIN price is what the price was, all is fair." While I can agree with this mentality to a certain extent, after receiving his message and then agreeing to a different proposal, I feel that I would be in the wrong if I denied the request and moved on. Maybe I am just the biggest fool in the world?

Same thing happened to me recently too. Frustrating as hell.
  • Anybody know whar's going on with the watcher system on ebay?

Some auctions show how many watchers, and some do not. There is no rhyme or reason to it. And i have they stopped it completely after negative response, but i am still seeing auctions that show how many watchers.

This is dumb because showing how many people were watching my listings really helped boost my sales. People get a sense of urgency when they realize 10 other people are interested in what you have. Thanks

Ebay has gradually done away with watcher count publically. You can still view them as a seller in your available through My Ebay. When you say "it helped boost sales" I disagree. You need to factor people that really are just interested in knowing what an item sold for.

Maybe, but even if a bunch just watch it to see what it sells for, isn't that a bit irrelevant to the point? Because nobody knows why each person is watching it. They just see 20 watchers. I know personally when i see an item that has many people watching it, it gives urgency to the purchase because it may not be there if you wait too long. But that is just my take on it.

And for some reason when i hit 8 watchers, it is now showing publicly in the listing. Not sure why.

I always get more bids on stuff that has more watchers too.

  • Every so often I will get a message from a user on eBay asking about an item (in good shape, do I ship to them, etc.) and I respond. They then never bid on the item. Uh, you're welcome?

Just like on OfferUp/Letgo and CL. I get messages ALL THE TIME from people asking if stuff is still available. I respond that it is, and never hear from them again. Even worse is when we negotiate on a price and the person never gets back to me. So... you changed your mind?

If somebody on Craigslist sends a text message "Is the item for sale still available?" or "still available" with the title and price then its a scammer or a random bot. If somebody truely were interested they would say "I read your ad on Craigslist and noticed you have "X Item" available. If its still available I like to come over and buy it or they make a cash offer.
  • Then I have to ask - what is the point of those bots? They can't get my email or any personal info... so?
  • Have you been getting a lot of robocalls recently?
  • I get them from time to time, but doesn't everybody? I'll be honest, I have no idea how bots work. I have my email/phone number connected to the apps, and only an email connected to my CL account. Can bots pull that information in a way that regular users messaging cannot?
  • I'm just saying they're probably fishing to see if a live person will reply to their message, and if you do, you go on the "bug the hell out of this person" list.
  • The point of a bot is to get your information. Most of the time on Craigslist if you respond to a bot it knows that your phone number or email are live like Tulpa said. They can easily get your email or phone number through Craigslist. If your email is on the web they can get it. If your phone number is on the web they can get it. What they do with a phone number is call it to scam you. I get calls from random people all the time like cleaning people, energy solution people, realtor asking if I want to sell my house. With emails they could send you spam messages or sometimes hack into other accounts say like facebook or even dating websites a person might have. Just be careful who you reply to on Craigslist. Relatives of mine say they sell the old fashion way. They require a person to call if they want to buy something. It is always on a land line not a cell phone.
  • I hate eBay so much. I just opened an account and put a laptop on there on auction and realized after some final testing a few hours before it ended that the amazon charger was a piece of junk. So I tried to cancel and it wouldn't let me, I tried to call eBay and sat on hold for so long it disconnected and the buyer wins, I cancel it and refund him within an hour and now he leaves negative feedback saying I scammed him. Well that was fun, thank god for LetGo and Mercari.

Why do I even try with this site, no one ever leaves feedback but negatives and you get screwed over constantly as a seller all the while paying 2-5% in Paypal fees, 10% in ebay fees and $1 for insertion fees AND another few dollars if your auction is less than 7 days. STAY AWAY, RUN.

There is literally no reason why a cancelled order that was refunded pretty much immediately, not relisted and an apology sent about it not working should be given the option to have negative feedback left. Neutral MAYBE, but now I'm sitting in the feedback revision extortion scam, luckily it sold for more than I thought it would so hopefully he will take the bait, but it's basically a Pay for Delete with credit companies scheme on this stupid website and he doesn't have to keep his end of the deal. He has 1 feedback too and registered a few days ago. Did I mention I hated eBay and Mercari is where you should be selling things?

Update: The buyer revised his feedback into positive saying he jumped the gun and didn't request a ransom payment, a one in a million resolution.
  • It's one thing for someone to throw a super low best offer at something, just in case. It's another thing to message them asking if you will take 30% of your asking price ($100+ item).

    GTFO

I just come back at them because I know they are just trying to waste my time, can be fun. (item is $200)

  • I ordered two of those security bits for opening nintendo games from China. They were like 90 yen with free shipping each. The seller sent me one of them, but not the other one. So I ended up without the 3.8mm which is probably the most important one for me.
