  • A fool looking for a bigger fool. They're fairly rare, but I think it's more fair around $100 than $500.
  • I'm kind of irritated. I was considering placing a bid on this auction

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/111194874797?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

But I checked the bid history, and I'm not confident enough that it's not being shill bid. So I backed out.

That's tough to say, somebody might be seeing the Nintendo Precautions in the back and thinking it's less likely to be a bootleg. DS and GBA stuff can be tricky unless you're buying brand new or from other collectors.

  • GBA and DS games are becoming a right pain in the arse to buy from eBay. Looks as though I've ended up with a real game in a counterfeit box and the jury is still out on the manual.
  • I didn't think DS was all that pirated due to the unique cards and small size of them. GBA though is a crap shoot if it's a popular title.

I dunno, I thought it was going on with Super Princess Peach, Mario Kart DS, and maybe some of the Pokemon titles. I haven't googled "Video Game Wholesale China" lately, but sometimes it's a good way to see what the enemy is up to

There are plenty of counterfeit DS games out there unfortunately. I've seen plenty of Pokemon games, Mario Kart DS and I also received a counterfeit Prof. Layton game a couple of years ago. Currently in the process of fighting for a refund on a fake Pokemon Platinum =/.
  • Well a bit of good news today for me from what I call the "eBay" Goodwill in my area. There was a guy that started working there near the start of this year and I noticed he wasn't around much lately. He had been marking up everything video game related and was hiding stuff in the back for his own personal agenda. I had mentioned in one of my "finders keepers" posts about how I bought SNES + NES systems and when I went to checkout he got all upset about how they weren't supposed to be brought out, he wanted them for his own collection, etc. Anyways, I went there today and bought a couple of cheapo GBA carts that had been sitting there over a month ($10 for one, $6 for the other). They ended up selling them to me for $2 each, basically what they are worth imo. The ridiculous prices on them were from that guy apparently.
  • Wow so the crook got let go or taken off of pricing? If so, that's good. Clearly scaring people off overpricing stuff, then I bet he'd knock it down to a comfy area for him and sell it on the side to himself.
  • Well honestly I personally find ebay the best value for your money. I mean yeah if you buy a game off some guy with a 50 ebay rating where all he has sold before is his wives old clothes. His games listed as VG condition are probably gonna be acceptable. But if you buy off your older larger sellers your probably gonna get better quality. I just look at what I see in vintage game stores and I'm usually a few dollars more but the stuff I ship out just beats theres cold in both working order and cosmetic appearance even the items listed as "good" or "acceptable". Its not like I only buy games from the pickiest collectors or anything I just take time test them out clean them up and there you go most gamestores simply don't. CRAIGSLIST? Seriously that is the "Yard sale of the Internet" to treat it as anything else or even to pay relative to ebay prices is insane. Just one thing I pick up frequently over CL ps2 consoles it is so common for me to find one that I take it home and DVD's won't play in it or no games at all. About a year ago I seriously I used to go 20-25$ for a ps2 over CL. Now I go around 10$ for one they just have too many issues and I need the option to sell them as broken

the problem is "very good" description per ebay means it must contain the box and instructions. Id never filter by ratings. Just look at pictures.  If they dont have pictures, then use your best judgement

And again today for the 100th time this year a buyer wants to cancel a purchase because  "their kid bought it". So sick of this lame excuse. Its always with manuals or cases only too. Always!!!

  • Oh I don't buy off ebay I only sell there.

From what another worker told me he got fired for hiding items in the back and other shady practices. She wouldn't go into a whole lot of detail though (understandable).

  • That's good to hear. Normally it's not nice to hear someone losing a job, but doing that, they deserve it and having to explain it on a resume to the next place they move to. I mean it can't look good getting fired from Goodwill as that's the cesspool of employment as they hire the unhireable basically.
  • Theres actually a brank new copy of Digimon world for 49.95 3$ shipping.
  • I won this auction, thinking maybe the seller would honor the price

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/111184880556?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I waited about a week and a half, messaged the seller, gave them a little while to respond, and then opened a dispute. Still no response so I escalated to a claim in paypal and this was the message they sent to me

"Good evening Ma'am. I would like to make you aware, that I did not received any message,or any money from any bids transaction from any one,any where. If you wish to,you may request a refund from Pay-Pal or from whom ever you have made such transaction with, because besides all,the Nintendo Control Deck have been sold for a more reasonable amount of money. I am sorry, for any misunderstanding that this site may have cause to you. I apologize to you myself for any misunderstanding that I may have cause to you. I only hope, and pray that you may get your money back as soon as possible. Thank you Ma'am for taking your time in reading this message, may you have a good night."

  • not sure if this is the proper spot for my "beef" but what i dont get is this: i have a wanted ad on a buy/sell site. why do people ask me to offer them a price when they say they have no idea they what it's worth yet when i give them a price i would pay the reply with "oh, that's not enough, i wanted xxxxx"

    for example:

Hi there, I have 2- original nintendos, 2- sega genesis and a play station consoles. About 5-6 play station games and maybe 10 games each for the nintendos and segas or more. Not sure how much they r worth

ok. do you have a picture or list of games by chance?

    thabks,

ok. how much would you want for all that stuff?

    thanks,

???? Not sure what it's worth

    how about $75 for everything?

You got to do better then that. I could probably get $120-$150 just for the consoles

    like, hello!

or also again, not a specific sale but generic irk. why does it seem that people who desire "URGENT SALES" post outrageous prices? How does that work?

Again, if this is the wrong spot please forgive.
  • Yea, I find it down right stupid, especially the people who say "I know what it's worth so no low ballers". FFS if you have a price in mind, state it and stop beating around the bush and wasting time, it's not hard. Chances are the people interested in it also know the price, so save everyone the time and just state what you want for it.
  • Well, low ballers are obnoxious. I had some shithead offer me $120 for an item I had listed at $359.99. I don't get why some types think that if a person is selling something on eBay or CL that they are desperate for money and will take any shitty offer.

They probably were just waiting for you to throw out the first number.  It's a good negotiating tactic.. Always let the other person set the mark.

It could save you from you saying, "Hey do you want $800 for this box of CIB SNES rare games??" to them starting with, "Oh, I dunno I guess $200 will take it."

  • Forgot to add... my new pet peeve is when I have something listed for BIN OBO a person asking me what the least I'd take for an item is. Do they honestly expect that I'll tell them how little they can pay me for something? My eBay name isn't reallydumbguy79.

The appropriate response, is Whats the most youll pay for it?

    stupid questions.
  • I think I'll use that one next time I get that idiotic question.
  • "Zeke....The Plumber..."

It kinda bungs me IRL you can usually negotiate someone down to about 66% of what they want without too much problem, but on eBay a seller will offer OBO, and then counter offer with something that is like a dollar less than their original Buy it Now. Were you really expecting people to offer you a dollar less?
  • I'm not going to call this person out by name... but seriously, if you have an objection to something you sell on here being resold on eBay... don't sell your games and realize how moronic it is to be pissed that someone paid your asking price and is trying to make a profit. Its like being pissed off at a car dealership for selling the car you sold them for more money than they paid you for the car.

Its especially BS to complain that someone is selling a repro you claim to have made... YOU DON'T OWN THE FUCKING IP RIGHTS TO THAT GAME!
  • Hah wow, guess they should have charged a higher rate or just accepted it as a likely thing, I would. Also bad is agreements that drag out, prices change, shipping materials not accounted for, gaps of a day or two in discussion, then getting mad when the buyer walks off and with no transaction on file the whole time. I won't name names either as it's not needed, but I went and got a little nicer of the same off ebay with the manual too for just a few bucks higher than the most escalated rate offered.
  • Now I've figured out why I got the pissy message... it seems that some other member here who couldn't be bothered to bid got butthurt that I had the nerve to list a repro on eBay and posted in the auction thread over 2 weeks after it closed that I put them on eBay. To put this very bluntly. If you didn't bid on the games, you obviously didn't want them so keep your stupid fucking e-mouth shut. I have student loans, a mortgage, a kid to pay for, and other bills. If I think I can make extra cash by buying low and selling high I'm going to do it. No one is getting hurt by me buying from someone on here and then listing it on eBay. If you don't like people trying to earn extra money, move to fucking Cuba or some other communist country where profit is frowned upon.
