Disney/Capcom Games

The other day, I finished Darkwing Duck on the NES. As everyone knows, it's a Capcom game based off the Disney cartoon of the same name. You can really see Capcom's hand in it, and many times it felt like Mega Man, which is never a bad thing. I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't think it's my favorite Disney/Capcom game...

... in fact, I can't make a favorite off the top of my head. They're all really good. Does anyone have a favorite Disney/Capcom game? What is it and why?

(Yeah, I know I'm not the best at introductory posts, but you catch my drift).

  • I would go with Duck Tales. I played it a lot as a kid and watched the show a lot, so that is probably what differentiates it from the rest for me. Although i just recently played Rescue Rangers for the first time, and have to say that is pretty sweet as well.
  • Similar to Mark, Ducktales all the way. I loved this game from the second I opened it as a kid. It has one of my favorite videogame soundtracks of all time, and is extremely fun to play.
  • I'd have to go with the first Duck Tales probably (the 2nd one isn't nearly as good IMO)... but Little Mermaid is a solid game as well. I also really enjoy Rescue Rangers, Mickey Mousecapade and Adventures in the Magic Kingdom.... you really can't go wrong with any of them though.
  • does marvel vs capcom fit in disney???

Disney bought out marvel comics and the game is made by capcom so yeah lol
  • I would say "Mickey Mousecapade", but that game was developed by Hudson Soft and published by Capcom. Ironically, that started Capcom's deal with Disney.

As much of an overrated game as it is, I'd have to say Duck Tales as well, because I've played both the NES and Game Boy versions, and the GB port was almost perfect.
  • The trio of Duck Tales, Chip n Dale and Darkwing Duck all do use variations on the Mega Man game engines, Darkwing uses #5 as the starting point from what I remember.

Personally it's a bit hard to decide but probably Duck Tales though Darkwing Duck is pretty well even to it in my book as they're both fantastic. Huge fan of those 2 shows from back in the day and even with the NES hardware limits they really did capture the magic. Shame that the GB version of Ducktales wasn't much fun to me, felt like all the inputs were lagged or something as it just never clicked the same, but details wise it was amazing looking. I wonder if Darkwing is the same as I've yet to come across that one. It is a shame though that Duck Tales 2 sucks compared to the original, I had that one last year and sold it. I didn't quite ever understand why they would make a bunch of stages, but only 1 you could complete as you needed an item from one of the others. It just had no sense of direction and was frustrating due to that one thing.
  • Definitely Duck Tales, but I do have a special place for Mickey Mousecapade.
  • I can't say I'm surprised at all about all the love going toward Duck Tales. It's a really fun game. I guess I've been missing out by not completing it yet.

Although, I am really surprised about Mickey Mousecapade. I thought the game was going to be great, but... it wasn't to me. It had some good ideas, but Minnie Mouse was the death of me most of the time. Maybe I just need to go back and get used to it, but in my opinion, it doesn't hold a candle to the rest of the Disney/Capcom games.
  • Goof Troop. Vastly underrated. A very good 2-player game that requires some brain action. Played this with my cousin a couple months ago. We had a blast. It's kind of Zelda-y, but mostly pure puzzle action. Very little NPC dialogue... made me wish they had a little more of that, lol. But, solid solid game you can't go wrong with. I believe it's uber cheap, too. Like $5 cheap. Get it. Play it.

You should absolutely give duck tales a go. it can be finished in one sitting and is really fun to play

  • Never heard of it! I'm assuming it's for the SNES, correct? Capcom's Aladdin on the SNES is quite good as well.

Those are awesome titles, some of my personal favorites. I owned duck tales as a kid and loved that game, I can't even count the number of times I played thorough that game. Rescue rangers was a bit harder but still ones of my favs today.
  • I personally enjoy Goof Troop. I haven't played too many of these though. I like the multiplayer adventuring.
  • Goof Troop is a fun game. Darkwing Duck is pretty awesome as well, and Rescue Rangers is fun. Me personally? Duck Tales. DT2 just didn't have the same charm as the first one, and felt less polished to me. Duck Tales can be completed pretty quickly... I wanna say 30 - 40 minutes easily.

ETA: Apparently 8 minutes to beat the game is highly possible, not sure if it's the world record though.
  • I'll have to go with Duck Tales, then Darkwing Duck as a runner-up. Used to love Chip 'n Dale as a kid, but it's far too basic and repetitive for my tastes today.
  • I'd have to go with Duck Tales also. Chip 'n Dale is a close second though. I'm surprised by the guy that mentioned The Little Mermaid. I thought it was pretty sad.

I was talking to Steve about Goof Troop. You posted while I was typing up my post. I hate it when that happens.

  • ^ Ha, yes, GF's for SNES. The graphics won't blow you away but for some reason I'm a pretty big fan of the visuals. It shows you that simple, just enough color and some nifty looking bosses/backdrops can go a long way.
  • Duck Tales!
  • Duck Tales gets #1 just barely over Darkwing Duck. I give Duck Tales the edge due to the music.
  • I have a soft spot for Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, maybe it's because I owned it as a kid, but I love the Haunted Mansion levels. So much fun, plus I love the mirror images with the ghost in the main hall.
  • Duck Tales! Much because of nostalgia. I have always liked Uncle Scrooge.
  • If we're going 8 and 16 bit, I'd have to go with Aladdin and World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse for the Genesis

Although Aladdin on the Genesis is one of the best 16 bit Disney games, it was done by Virgin not Capcom.  The SNES Aladdin was Capcom, but that version was just meh when compared to the Genesis.

Really? I hear a lot from others that they prefer the Capcom Aladdin over the Virgin Aladdin. Virgin made some pretty solid Disney games for the Genesis, too. Though I'm not too big of a fan of The Lion King. It's a fun game, but some weird hit detection and awkward "feel" of the game deters me. My girlfriend loves it, though; I have a lot of fond memories of us playing it over the phone in our respective locations (we're currently geologically separated).
  • The virgin stuff was superior simply because the visuals were hand drawn by Disney animators which they made a big deal out of back then, and made sure to back it with quality gameplay.

Sure, the graphics may be superior (I prefer Capcom's), but I still tend to think that Capcom's gameplay still surpasses the Virgin versions of the game(s).
  • I really liked Darkwing Duck. the cape mechanic made the game. is it weird that I liked the music in it more than the ducktales music?
  • Did I miss something, because it baffles the brain that Magical Quest:Starring Micky Mouse for the SNES hasn't been mentioned yet. THAT'S ONE OF THE BEST FREAKIN GAMES EVER!
