I'm going to be replacing the connector, and maybe disabling the lockout soon. Any advice? Or should an instruction video on youtube be good enough?

  • When putting it back together remember what screws go into the metal shield. I'm bad about screwing stuff down, then trying to put the shield on and realizing I put some screws in too early.

Also, be sure the toaster mechanism is properly placed when you screw the cart holder back down. If you start tightening the front screws and the pop up mechanism starts bowing out, it isn't properly in place.

What are you using to cut the lockout pin? I actually use an exacto knife. I don't use a back and forth sawing action. I put the blade in place to cut the leg and pull to cut through it, but I don't push back like you would like you were sawing a log. I put the blade back where I started and pull again. I repeat until I've cut through. Imagine cutting a log with a handsaw but only cutting in one direction. Pulling it toward you.

Guides will show you where everything is, and I'm sure has better methods for cutting the pin. That method just works for me since I have exactos blades in my desk.

  • Clean the mother board where the 72 pin connects while you are at it.
  • Mark the screws in which way that go into the connector, all others are pretty easy to remember as there's groups of them. Clip pin 4 always. Yeah, scrub the mother board as long as you can get it completely dry. Have fun with it.
  • Have you tried boiling the 72 pin connector to see if that restores your pin connector worked for me, really well!!

  • The new connector never worked properly, so I boiled the old one that was seven years old or older, with dead bugs and droppings stuck in it. It performed flawlessly. I played Crystalis from beginning to end last night with no glitching.
  • Sweet. Installation was pretty easy right?

This is why I never change them out in the first place.  Just saying.
  • I put a new conector in mine that I got from lukiegames and it works everytime, I think there may be varying quality of the new ones.
  • I'm glad to hear that your NES is up and running again! Remember: (spoken in a mother-knows-best tone) thoroughly clean your games too!
  • I will swap connectors out on any toaster EXCEPT for my 1991 christmas morning toaster.

That toaster I've bent the pins twice back up now and he is sexier than ever.
  • There was no gold plating on the new connector. I've been wondering if that might have had anything to do with the fact that it performed worse than the old one did even before I cleaned it.
