Small post whoring rant

  • How about we just take out the post count for good..i mean really who cares if you got 1 or 2000 posts..do we happen to get a reward if our post count is high enough oh and that combo breaker picture was funny as hell!!
  • I think it serves some purpose, which is why we've kept it. Trust me, we stripped 90% of the fat of this forum away when we implemented it, simply because I'm not a huge fan of "feature bloat" on forums. Keeping things simple is good, but I do think post count does let people know that perhaps what you're saying has merit, and they can better form and informed opinion on the comments of someone more established in the community.
  • If you want to end post whoring add a snapshot of the 5 or 6 of us with >10k posts to the FAQ that says "post-whoring, don't do it, you'll never catch up, these guys are YEARS ahead of you"
  • Oh I'm coming for you Arch Though ironically enough, I bet less than 300 of my posts are in the Welcome forum, I hardly ever post there. I'm more of a BST / Price Check / Collector's Corner / Auction Site Spotlight kind of guy.
  • I always throw out a brief welcome to new members when they make an intro post, not about post whoring for me though.
  • If you'd like to waste your short time on this planet bumping welcome threads on an Internet forum to get your post count up, I'm not going to stop you.
  • I havent been here as long as most people so when Im looking at stuff to buy, I do look at post count but I also look at the date joined. If they have been here 2 weeks and have 2000 posts, it makes me wonder ... but also if someone has been here 2 years and has 12 posts, it also makes me wonder too. So I do like the post count for that.
  • I disagree with taking up the entire LatestPosts section, I think that's a bit much.

However to those saying post count doesn't matter, there's one called Purple Ganon.. Which I want! But i'm not spamming threads. The only time I post Welcome to NA is when a guy makes his first post in BST something about that just bugs me.

Like others said, it means little to nothing here. No features gained by reaching specific post count levels.

Then why can't I still be a chubby cherub (((((

Bring my post count down naow!! haha
  • I'm a friendly guy but I don't think I've ever welcomed anyone to the site. I support the purpose of that forum but when 30 ppl all say the same thing I find it pointless. I believe a certain amount of posts leads to an implied level of trust but I just find that forum too boring to bother checking.

    Since you asked nicedly

And lookey loo at who is on top!

Edit: Since I can't take a screenshot worth crap, Nathan is on top, surpassing former post whore Jason, by over a thousand posts!
  • Well I for one am very very annoyed with people that do all their welcoming for one month in about 10 minutes on a Friday afternoon.

I try to welcome new members, as they come in because, I think it makes the newbie feel like they belong right away.

Also you will never meat Wiz's Mom, unless you post whore
  • Meat his mom... I see what you did there!

Is there anyway you could mention that thats not what that section is for. I can unerstand veterans getting in there and welcoming new people but when someones only been on the site for 2 weeks and saying welcome to everyone that made a thread that day isnt "welcoming" to me. Yes, it happened just now but it happens often enough for me to complan about it. If Im off basis, then just tell me to shut up and  play nice. But Im just sayin...

Maybe this need to be revisited again. There's nothing wrong with welcoming people, but when someone posts in 25+ welcome threads in a row and takes up the entire "latest posts" list, it gets to be a bit annoying.

  • ^yep that petty much is just annoying

This does seem to be a thing. I guess I didn't get the memo about "Welcome Friday".

  • As a new user let me just say this...the welcomes were very nice in my "howdy" thread when I first joined this site. I really did like them.

I dont know if the people actually cared or wanted to increase there post count but the 5-6 people telling me welcome made me want to stay and explore.
