  • I can't think of a game I loved that I didn't beat, but it did take me about 20 years to finally beat Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

    No way for real?????

I remember the first time i lasted 3 rounds with tyson and won on points i threw the controller in the air and jumped up and started yelling like i actually won a fight. It was the most excited i have ever been to beat a game. And the ending wasn't bad either

You're probably asleep right now... but that's no excuse. Play it. Beat it. Now.

Y'know, to elaborate on my post a little bit more. There are some days where I sit down and say to myself, "I will NOT LEAVE until this game is beaten." ... Yet after about a six hour struggle, I quit. The thing is, I've beaten Ghosts 'n Goblins, but at least I still always felt like I was making some progression. Only Holy Diver, it's easy to just feel STUCK once you're about four or five levels in. It's so brutal.

Getting "STUCK" kills my interest in a game quicker than anything. back when we were playing these games the first time around we didnt have the internets to look up walkthroughs and only the big budget games got exclusive startegy guides. Nintendo power was our friend

Man, I can only imagine the feeling getting stuck in a game like Milon's Secret Castle or heck, Castlevania II. Most everything in both games can be figured out with some time, but some things are just wayyyy too cryptic. That's not the problem with Holy Diver, though. That's just difficulty. Continuous dying. =( That game over music still haunts me in my sleep. X_X
  • Ninja Gaiden III for me. I beat the first two after a (long) while, but I just can't get far enough in the third without having to go all the way back.
  • until last year, this would have been Ghosts and Goblins for me... Now, I guess maybe Ninja Gaiden is the best I can do, but Ninja Gaiden doesn't bother me like GNG used to.
  • As a kid i played legacy of the wizard for years without managing to make any real progress. It had so much to explore for a NES game that it was daunting. I guess at some point I gave up. I must fix this...
  • Deadly Towers. It was my first game for the NES (other than the SMB pack in) and I really enjoyed it but I have never completed the game. That is my goal this year to finally beat the game...well one of my goals the other involves helping these two strange talking mice take over the world but i've probably said too much already.
  • yep, ghosts and goblins and battletoads for me

  • Mike Tyson's Punch Out still gets me. I will get it one of these days....
  • Battletoads, Adventures of Bayou Billy, and Ghost N Goblins were three of the toughest for me. I made it to the last level of Battletoads once many years ago. Never made it far at all in Bayou Billy. Ghosts N Goblins, I could probably beat it if I sat down long enough with it but it was tough when I was younger.
  • I forgot about battletoads. i stayed up playing that game till 6 in the morning one time with my uncle and couldnt get through the last 2 stages.
