Retro games on New tv??? help

Hello,

I currently have all my retro consoles connected to my Toshiba 34" CRT tv to make sure all resolutions etc are great. The wife wants me to get rid of the tv and leaning towards a newer style.  Is there a convertor or something to take retro consoles and make them look good on a LCD or PLASMA? I have been told they do not and from my testing on my LCD it looks bad... any ideas?

thanks in advance.

Jim

  • keep the tv

lcd or plasma are not made for old consoles
  • the older the tv the better........! as long as it has color tv in it...! the new tv's are not very nice to the classics!

  • I think most 8 bit stuff looks ok on a newer TV.. but 16 bit looks bad to me and the lag on most new tv's is horrible.
  • It looks great, until your HDTV's processing makes it all blurry and crap.
  • Even with a RF switch or a A/V cable, old gen consoles still look okay on newer TVs. Some people are pretty picky and resort to modding their systems for better video quality.

A think to note, you can't play old light gun games from older consoles on a new TVs. So if anything, get both!
  • mine look fine on my 21" lg lcd
  • You need a tv for the game room/mancave anyway right? Just move the crt into there and get a new one for her.
  • Even if you get used to the fuzziness, the input lag will drive you crazy.
