GameBoy Advance SP - shell/screen swap?

I have a Pearl Blue SP with the backlight that I've been using to play on, then yesterday in the mail I finally received my retro NES-style SP. It's not backlit though, so I was wondering how difficult it is to either put the screen from my Pearl Blue into the NES one, or just swap all the plastic between the two.

I've taken apart a few different consoles and done some minor fixes so I have a basic idea of what I'm doing. I just wanted to know if this would wind up being a super-involved project where I would run the risk of screwing something up permanently.

Thanks!

  • Nah, case swaps are super easy. Used to do it all the time. Think the hardest part would be getting the hinge area put back together correct. Don't remember if you can do the screen only, but I am sure it is just connected by a ribbon, so should not be that hard.

  • yea its not rocket science, just be careful with that ribbon cable and make sure your case around the screen bezel is even before you snap it together, ive split some hinges on a few before that werent lined up just right.
  • The motherboard needs to be swapped as well. Be careful while removing the five screw covers, it's easy to damage the plastic in that area if you don't have the right tool.
  • I did the same for my NES styled SP. It was pretty easy to swap out all the guts between the cases. Some screws are under the rubber domes and taking those off sometimes rips them.
