Dragon Quest VI Question
I've been on a Dragon Quest binge over the last few days. I'm currently playing through Dragon Quest 2 and Dragon Quest 3. Loving both of them. After finishing one of these up I'm wanting to play through Dragon Quest VI. And I'm wondering which version is better to play? The SNES version? Or the DS one? Anyone played both and are there any real differences in them besides the translations?

Ooops, that's very true, DQIV that was the only one from the first six instalments that didn't make it to the Super Famicom.

Original is always better. I've never played either, but one can assume they butchered it like all the FF remakes on the GBA/DS.
maybe for you...
after playing the GameBoy remakes for 1-3 i'd never go back to the NES versions. i definitely prefered the DS remake of DQ IV to the original as well. never played the SFC version of DQ V, but the DS version was great. haven't played VI yet, almost started to play it after finishing V but made the mistake of playing IX instead (holy hell that game sucks, and i've been a DW/DQ fan for almost 25 years).
then again, being made for the SFC, i don't think the difference between the remakes and originals would be as great as it is with the NES games. either way, the remakes aren't "butchered".
You can't earn job points if you're fighting inferior monsters, so if you're not gaining job levels then move on to the next area. The best place to grind for job points is underwater, once you reach that point in the game. Monsters there always give a job point, regardless of your level.

I have played both my self, and personally I have to say that allthough in most instances I'd stick with original, I actually found myself enjoying the DS version over the SNES, soley for the purpose of playing the extra bonus dungeons and stuff that was added to the DS version. I did still enjoy playing it on the SNES too however
This. Much preferred DS version. For some reason I absolutely adored all of the DS remakes for their use of 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds. Brought back awesome Grandia memories. An improvement on the original in my opinion.
