Hello all!

Hello all!

I've recently started to collect all of the NES carts. I'm still at the beginning stages, and I have much to learn. As of now, I have a total of 56 carts. Any advice on the "Proper" way to collect and what to look for would be much appreciated.

Just stopping by to say "Hello" to everyone, and I look forward to chatting with everyone on my quest to complete my NES collection.

Take care,

Lou D

  • Welcome aboard!

There's really no "proper" way to collect. Sure, there's tips 'n tricks, but never just one way. You'll get in your groove.
  • Thanks for the welcome, Nightowl!

Trying to find CIB games is very difficult at a retail level. I'm not sure who is on the up and up, and who isn't. When it comes to local game stores, I'm a litlle iffy on who's  selling at legit prices, and who's inflating. It's going to be quite the learning experience, but I look forward to it!

Once again, thanks for the welcome!
  • There's a thread about "WHY DO YOU COLLECT VIDEO GAMES" in the collector's corner section, might want to check it out as there are some tips in there. Overall, there's no right way to collect. It's just much easier if you stick with the same goal throughout (hard to start off CIB and go cart only, and vice versa).

Edit: Where are my manners!? Welcome to NintendoAge!
  • Welcome Lou, research market trends (and the NA rarity database!) Before making any large purchases.

Its a bit of homework, but if you're passionate about the hobby, and diligent, it will pay off (:
  • Welcome to NA!
  • Ah, yeah. You'll definitely want to do your homework, that's for sure!

It's possible to find CIB in flea markets and garage sales. Though it is much more uncommon, all of my CIBs are from there. Granted, I only have about six or seven and 223 cartridges.
  • Thanks for the welcome Technical Foul, p33j and bearcat-doug.

I'm very passionate about collecting the games. I started at a local level and then did some searching on ebay, ect.

Wasn't sure about the pricing, so I was a little gun-shy about buying online.

I noticed that there's a pricing guide on the site somewhere. I'll have to look into that and see what's floating around.

I started with the basics. Mairo, Metriod, Contra ect.

Thanks for giving me a place to start, and if you have any other suggestions please feel free to give me any and all advice.
  • I'll start to do some homework asap.

Where's a good place to search the market trends?

    Forgive my noobness! lol
  • Search completed listing on eBay for an accurate feel on the market's last 15 days or so. There's a price guide chart here that tracks sales over the last couple years, but it's a piece of shit. If you want to know what things are going for, look up completed eBay listings.
  • Thanks for the advice, Ghaleons!

I picked up a few things yesterday at a local game store. TMNT 2, Burgertime (3 screw), Balloon Fight (5 screw)and Mach Rider (5 screw).

The total ran me about 25. So, I figured I'd take a shot.

I'm sure I could find these games cheaper online, but I figured why not?

  • Welcome to NA!! At the start you'll probably do best buy buying in bulk, especially since you'll often need many of the carts offered in said lots, when you get doubles sell them off and continue to buy more lots. As you get up in the higher numbers it'll be tougher to score deals in bulk, so take advantage of this while you can
  • Thanks for the idea, Clayton.

I'm guessing Ebay is the best place to buy in bulk/lots?

Sorry for all the questions. Still learning the ropes.
  • Local ads like Craigslist are a good place to start, but eBay works too. Locally is good because shipping can be expensive (well, for me anyways since I live in Canada) but choose Nintendo Age over eBay, it tends to be cheaper and helps community members. There are lots of people on here who will be more than fair and have lots of commons to get rid of. Best of luck!
  • I'm all about helping the members here on Nintendo Age, so I'll start here! Thanks again, Technicalfoul.

Thanks for the welcome, Nes Pimp!

Now I need to figure out how to find the lots/bulk on this site! lol
  • Welocme to NA Lou! Plenty of deals here in the BST forums.
  • try searching craigslists for "lots" you can sometimes grab great deals, same with flea markets and especially yard sales. Make an offer on a ton of stuff if you can to drive your price down. Remember you can always sell or trade dupes.
  • Welcome to NA!
