Just scored a good deal on a 3DS. Your favourite games?

So I found a 3DS at a pawn shop last night for $70 CAN, which I'm pretty happy about, but I have no idea what games to get!  I looked up a few lists but they all seemed like shoveled out editorials with the same bland terms for any game in the same genre.

So, I'd like to know what DS or 3DS games you guys think are must haves or gave you that "Holy shit, I'm playing this on a handheld???" moments.

I currently have Rune Factory 2 and Children of Mana but haven't had a chance to clock much play time with either.

Any links to DS/3DS deals would be cool too

  • RE: revelations

    SML3D

    Mario Kart

Splinter Cell (if youre already a fan)

    -downloads

    Mutant Mudds

    VVVVVV

    Pushmo
  • You can get Zelda Ocarina Of Time 3D.
  • The only 3ds game I own is dead or alive dimensions. I kinda recommend it. The only problem I have with the.game is that u can't control your tag team partner and it can be a pain.
  • I definitely recommend Kid Icarus Uprising. Controls definitely take some getting used to but the gameplay is great and the game is surprisingly hilarious. Lots of clever fourth wall breaking moments. Plus it's quite long and has tons and tons of stuff to unlock.
  • Nice deal.

    My faves so far:

    CLICK A BOX TO ZOOM!

And as far as downloads, I like these DSi/3DS games:

    Mutant Mudds

nice 3D effect on this one. It has a classic Commodore 64

feel to it and nice retro music as well. You should be able to grab a demo for it too.

It's a pretty addictive puzzle game with a ton of Nintendo 8 bit nostalgia love!

The remixes of 8bit NES music alone is worth the price!

    Shantae Risky's Revenge

It's the sequel from WayForward to the awesome (and pricey!) Shantae Game Boy Color game!

The graphics and music are amazing. It reminds me a bit of a game that might be on the Neo-Geo.

Jake Kauffman does some amazing chiptune music on this. Really amazing stuff!

    X-Scape

It's a follow-up to the Japanese only Game Boy game "X".

X was made by Argonaut Software (Of StarFox fame!) and it shows.

It really captures all of what made StarFox a great game on the SNES.

This was programmed by Q-Games (The PixelJunk guys)

  • Well for me I've got a collection of 11 titles, and I've only let go of two which was Samurai Warriors as it was too time consuming for me to keep at it but it played well, and one of them as it sucked due to bad control and other issues which was Street Fighter IV. I can easily recommend playing the titles I've kept as I've been choosy with it and they're rewarding. I will say that while I do have 2 of Nintendo's launch titles you'll see below I would highly recommend buying them used online or whatever for no more than $20.

    - Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy

    - Dead or Alive Dimensions

    - Kid Icarus Uprising

    - (The) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

    - Pilotwings Resort

    - Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection

    - Resident Evil Revelations

    - Star Fox 64 3DS

    - Steel Diver

    - Super Mario 3D Land

    - Tetris Axis

By the way have you any idea if you can look into when it was registered?  It may be and if so it could be liable for the 20 free ambassador games too.

    Good call.

    Definitely check into that.

  • What would someone compare Kid Icarus Uprising to? I want to buy it, but I'm not a fan of the looks. I like games like RE, Fallout, Deus Ex, etc. But everyone says it's fun...
  • Star Fox 64 3D is awesome. I guess you could say it's my favorite game (personally, I haven't been too impressed with other games on the system and mostly use it as a regular DS, haha).
  • My favorites are Kid Icarus Uprising and Mario Kart 7. Ocarina 3d looks better than the original and is good I was disapointed with Nano Assault.. it looks good but I was expecting something more like Descent
  • Kid Icarus Uprising is basically two games in style meshed into one.

The first part, the air combat is like a Starfox or better worded a Space Harrier type game where you blast as much as you can on rails. The second part is on foot, a third person shooter, and as such just think of any third person shooter on PC where you see yourself and then can freely use the mouse to pinpoint targets and blast the crap out of them while you run and strafe around freely.

That's Kid Icarus Uprising simply put.

There's more depth though as you can make, combine or buy your way into better weapons to use and there's multiple forms of them with each their own strengths and weaknesses, have extra perks or penalties, and can melee or range fight up to certain levels.
  • Thanks for the opinions guys. I picked up Mario Kart 7 and some cheaper regular DS games, I can't believe there's games like this on a handheld...

I'll try to look into that registration part that was mentioned to see if I get the 20 free games.
  • Check for Ambassador status here:

If the serial sticker on the bottom of the unit is gone, there's another serial sticker under the battery. Good luck!
  • Resident Evil: "Revelaitons" is an amazing game for a portable
  • Sweet deal!

I only have DoA: Dimensions and OoT3D and I highly recommend them both, of course. This thread has reminded me that I really need to hop on the ball on the 3DS now that better games have come out.
  • If you like RPGs both devil Survivor Overclocked and Tales of the Abyss are really good!

  • - Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection

Is the 3D effect any good with this game? Sounds interesting

  • Yes it is pretty good as it gives the tables a true sense of depth as all the stuff accurately comes off the tables with good height.
  • Bah, I'm pretty much blind in one eye (dead nerves) so the 3D isn't nearly as cool as it is for other people. Still a cool handheld though. I ended up grabbing Mario Kart 7 and some older DS games. Next up will definitely be Starfox and OoT.
  • I was a loser and bought mine when it was $300 xD. BUT! I am part of the ambassador program.. so I got all those free downloads.. Honestly it made the extra $150 worth it. Anyways! Highly recommend Super Mario 3D land.. It honestly incorporates elements from almost EVERY Mario game so far.. I found it surprisingly enjoyable.

Don't forget to pick up the standards neither! Legend of Zelda OoT 3Ds (It includes Master Quest! Different variation of the original MQ though), and Star Fox 3Ds =).

I would honestly pass on RE: Mercenaries.. Capcom made an epic fail in programming and made it impossible to erase your file and start new.
  • That doesn't make you a loser, just showed you had faith in the system and in the end you got 20 free games out of the Ambassador program, but also the limited window that 3D-Classics Excitebike and Zelda 4 Swords were free too.
