My consolized MVS came today!

Finally got my consolized MVS today!  Had this custom-built from one of the guys on the Neo forums.

SO excited to finally get some Neo games without paying 3 or 4 figures each

  • hey bill, they left the video tape in that vcr they sent you ?
  • I know somebody who is going to be all over this thread

    Looks pretty crazy, enjoy!
  • Congrats. I want one of these myself. Are you going to build a casing for it or keep it exposed?
  • I like to keep eproms exposed so I can touch them while I touch myself...

    erm, I mean, awesome console...
  • When I first saw the title I figured it was Joey (SamSpade) since I know he has one on the way also. I would love to get a MVS cabinet someday.

    Congrats on the awesome pickup.
  • I think I'm going to leave this "VCR" naked. Those encased ones are really nice but this just has a certain charm to it, ya know?

  • Are you going to pick up the Slugs, since you wont have to drop thousands on them now?
  • Very cool!

Oh yeah, I'm gonna show mine off when I get a chance, it's black and wooden like my soul.

Very cool Bill, you should pick up a multicart for it. Are you still gonna collect AES?

  • Nice, I need to pick up one of these. Is that a cutting board it's mounted to?
  • I saw that exact same CMVS board being sold by Big Bear on the Neo forums...

Personally, I think the MV-1 is the worst possible MVS board to consolize. It's just so damn big and many of it's features are best suited to cabinet use, like memory card support and headphone and stereo sound connectors. Even the MV-1F is pushing it as far as size goes.

Also, am I the only one that really hates the metal cartridge guide on the MV-1? It scratches the hell out of any carts you put in it...
  • Well let's put it this way: $250 shipped.

Most other similar boards were being offered to me for $400. And of course the really nice ones for $700.

    I'm happy.
  • Yes, as long as a Neo Geo brings someone happiness, all is right in the world.

Hopefully you can find a spot in your house big enough to hold that big bastard.
  • NICE! Memory card support isn't a bad thing to have, plus G-Mantle says it rocks!

  • ^Memory card support doesn't mean the same thing as an on-board card reader, like the 2-slot and AES have. The MV-IC card reader (not to be confused with MV-1C) is really only meant for cabinet use. Having that all set up along with a huge ass board really isn't convenient in a home environment.

The most important thing here is this was a very cheap CMVS option. Neo Geo shouldn't be known only as "that ultra expensive arcade console". It's a great game system with tons of classic and excellent games! (the genre selection is a bit limited though)
  • You're right Guntz. I have a japanese neo-geo MVS 33" (one of the rarer ones, the big 33 incher "candies") and the memory card reader on it is itself yet another piece.

    .
  • The Neo Geo to me was always function over form so that CMVS ain't so bad. I'm saving for an Omega at the moment since the MVS converters for the home console are hella expensive in their own right.
  • Bump from the dead since I like this thread, and I like to hear Neo Geo thoughts from this Nintendo crowd. I myself have a MV-1 board but it's sick with the click of death. I don't really have the equipment to do a proper diagnosis and repair, so I'm saving it for later down the road when I'm more skilled. Would be nice to get this board up and running one day and pop King of Fighters 2003 in there, just for the lulz of running a late release on an early motherboard.
  • I will be picking up my MV-1FZS tomorrow, I have most of the parts I need to consolize it. Just need to find some of those nice plastic stock looking controller ports and a couple of cheap controllers.

I will be using a SNES S-ENC encoder for my video output, it will have composite, s-video, and component outputs. I also ordered a 161-1 cart so by the time I'm finished modding the cart should be here.
  • japangamestock has pretty decent prices for the neo geo cd controllers. 2000 yen each + shipping (it will probably run you $25 to ship a pair.) still not a bad price if you want that type of controller.

Looks like it... I have the same cutting board in blue, haha.

Love the MVS. It's a great system. Much cheaper to run than an AES

Bumping an old thread because it comes up when I google for this board, I have questions, and I think it needs an update...

You think the size is "pushing it?" Nah! People just aren't utilizing the area well.

I mean, you gotta put that Neo stick somewhere anyway, right?

More seriously though, I have questions about the memory card support:

Is everything but the slot on the board? In other words, can I take the pinout and directly wire up a PCMCIA slot for the memory card or is there more to the original hardware? I don't have it and I want my MVS to be functionally as close to an AES as possible.

Luckily, the cart slot scratching isn't as much of an issue now that we have flashcart options. We can set and forget!
