Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS
As to be expected, Nintendo is throwing around ideas and beginning development on the next Super Smash Bros. One of the features it's most likely going to have is connectivity between the Wii-U and 3DS...
I was reading an article where Sakurai said that it would be a "dead end" of sorts if all they did was add new characters, stages, items, etc. Instead, he wants to gradually take it in a new direction. I highly doubt that this "new direction" will be anything that changes the game significantly (it could be simply referring to the Wii-U/3DS connectivity), but sometimes, things don't need to be changed. (A short article on IGN is where I got some of this information: http://wii.ign.com/articles/122/1223770p1.html) I'm just the type of person that's not a big fan of change and I usually jump to the extremes and worry a bit. The idea of connectivity between the Wii-U and 3DS could be brilliant, though. I definitely wouldn't some Smash Bros. on the go!
In my opinion, there are a couple of things that do need to be changed in the next Smash Bros., though. First, the next one should not be as spammy as Brawl. Brawl can just become a cluster of spam weapons before too long, which can become unfair. Even more unfair is the random tripping your character sometimes does - that needs to be removed... They also don't need to change up any characters... Some subtle changes they made to some fighters really bothered me, such as Shiek's "Down + A" attack being diagonally. Other improvements could be building upon the stage creator, more stages, and maybe some other content. Of course, there's the brawlers...
I desperately hope that Nintendo continues to add more fighters to the roster. Even though the list has grown exponentially, I feel like there's still plenty of room for more cherished characters. There's a lot of characters I'd like to see: Simon/Trevor Belmont and Mega Man especially. (There have been some rumors of Capcom characters being in the next Smash Bros.)
Of course, since development only started seriously starting after the completion of Kid Icarus uprising, nothing is concrete yet, but it's always fun to speculate. Smash Bros. is a beloved franchise by just about everyone and almost every fan has something to comment about who should be added, what stages should be featured, etc.

Comments
edit: saw you suggested those already (didn't read your whole post) I'd add Magikoopa, Protoman, Billy Lee, the fucking Battletoads, Bomberman and Wart!
Make the online as good as like UMVC3.
Bring back Melee's speed, take away tripping.
Some cool characters to add: Black Bull (F-Zero), Mega Man, Ridley (Metroid), Skull Kid (Majora's Mask), Little Mac (Punch-Out), One of the Advance Wars characters, Ray-Man, Bomberman, Groose (Skyward Sword).
I'm a big Smash bros fan also, and I'd be pretty excited for a new game.
Great minds think alike. Mega Man and a Belmont... I've been begging for those ever since Brawl. Bomberman would be a great addition. Skull Kid would be interested as well. He's my favorite Zelda villain.
Has anyone seen Project M for Brawl? They made a Castlevania stage. The backdrop looks ... just... awesome. The primary stage/foreground/playing field is pretty boring, though.
I'd like to see the reaction time/style of the first two to come back or a variant without the lag. If you want a change, why not allow making your own maps to fight on as that would get the online junkies into it even more. Also, I think it would be wise not just to change up the roster a bit and have more popular third party people, but also to allow for TEAM combat. Much like how the Marvel vs Capcom thing goes, why not allow 2on2 battles where you can pop and swap out a character to mix up the punishment?
Team Combat would definitely be interesting, but I don't see how that would be anything worthwhile to implement in Super Smash Bros.'s formula. =o
I love the stages that have a butt-load of stuff trying to kill you and would love to see a little more focus on those ones. Or the unique levels like the F-Zero one where you jump across the vehicles while you fight.
As for new characters I'd be happy with most of the ones already mentioned. Would also be cool to see a new throwback character or two like Mike from StarTropics, Master Higgins or Bub and Bob.

Melee was the best.
I agree. They need to extend the character roster by re-adding Mewtwo and Marth and make the other additions we've mentioned.
Melee also didn't have the floaty gravity like Brawl does.
At the very least get rid of Subspace Emissary. Took all the fun out of playing through the game as everyone and trying to beat different challenges in order to unlock new characters.

^ I always thought it was just me or the TV that was causing the lag. Maybe not.

At the time I had access to both a CRT tv and the LCD, and it played just as equally bad with the reaction lag so no it's not either of us, it's just a bad design decision. It's a shame really, it's the only reason why I don't have it as I never cared about the online junk anyway. It along with Mario Kart Wii caused me to lose faith in Nintendo and I've never blindly bought a title of theirs since after pissing $100 in cash on them at the same time. Back then I was paycheck to paycheck and had to save a good while so it left a bad impression and a good lesson on me with trust.

Get rid of the Smash ball, Subspace Emissary and PLEASE make the online stuff not suck

I totally forgot about the Smash Ball. I always play with that off. That thing is definitely bull crap and needs to go.

I think it would be cool, if the 3DS version was used to build up characters. Like pick a hero and play through a platforming game leveling and powering up, collecting items, then use that character on the Wii U to play online.
That's an idea... Though I don't think the "skills" or "stats" should apply to the character in local multiplayer. Maybe two different versions of online multiplayer: standard and whatever the one you suggested would be called. That's an interesting thought though. I personally wouldn't want it and it doesn't seem like something Nintendo would do.

I love the Smash Ball. That was my favorite addition with Brawl. I'd be a sad panda if they took that away. Also I agree with bringing back Mewtwo. He was a blast to play with.

It's not like the game forces you to use it either...
Yeah, that's why I turn it off when I can. But during the actual game, I'm forced to get it so no one else can.
On a semi-related note, apparently Sony's making their own Smash clone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1bQSw7FOUQ
I hope the next incarnation of the series has a story mode instead of just only a arcade mode.
As for good Ol' fashioned Brawling, No more Clone-Characters please. No more Captain Falcon-Gannondorfs, Young-Toon Link and whatnot.
That being said, I HOPE they don't remove Sonic from the next game. I'd really hate if one of my favortie characters gets Mewtwo'd.

Well yeah of course. There should be a standard arcade default setting for the main online competitive multiplayer, used for people who want tournament quality balance. And then the other mode just for people interested in testing how powerful they made their charcter.

I really didn't understand why Mewtwo got removed from the game. He and Lucario are different enough to be stand alone characters. The same goes for Marth and Ike. They're also different enough... I can understand why Pichu went. Even though he was faster than Pikachu - faster enough to make a difference for player's to have preference - Pichu hurting himself by attacking was ... well, stupid. From what I understand, that's how it works in the Pokemon universe, but I think that small change could've and should've been made. Now, if they took that off, I think he could've stayed. *shrug*
Also Mewtwo is WAY more popular then Lucario, I really didn't understand the move.

Actualy it doesn't. His Pokedex entry says he does but in the actual games he didn't so they pretty much did that based on a little blurb that ment absolutely nothing.

Interesting. I'm not a "Poke-fan" so to speak. That's weird that they did make such a dynamic character trait off one little comment, you're right.
Yeah, Mewtwo is more popular. That's plain to see. That being said, I'm sure there's many Smash Bros. fans that enjoy Lucario on the game, so they should have both. =o
What do you think the chances are of Nintendo having a massive poll or suggestion-thing where they ask fans to contribute their ideas? I think that'd really help the game, especially with the character roster. I wish they'd at least listen to our input on that.
This is actually the one franchise I wouldn't mind seeing DLC character packs released on another note.
Any chance for some Namco characters?
