Highest scores for Donkey Kong Competition Edition
I thought it would be nice to have a thread to post high scores for Donkey Kong Country Competition Edition, especially considering the reproduction is on the way and lot more people wil have the opportunity to play this game. I would like to see some pictures of everyones top scores. After about 3 hours I was able to break 5,000 and reach a score of 5,145. What are some of your high scores for this game?

This probably going to be one of the most played Donkey Kong Comps. From what you've said I take it you played it a lot. I will also show it love. These games belong in the super nintendo, not a safe : ). Out of curiosity, did you get 4,000 by running through the levels or did you keep killing yourself on first level?

I went through the levels. I wasn't sure how the scoring system worked until I looked it up yesterday so I thought part of the goal was to get as far as possible. I can't believe I didn't think of dying on purpose on the first level to rack up points since that's basically the same strategy I use on the collect 50 coins in Super Mario Bros part of the NWC.

I think that is what makes it so much fun. There are basically two ways to play it. You can do a speed run and see how far you get or devise a strategy to collect points.

Yeah the starfox one is a lot more polished. It has a nice start up screen, the game doesn't freeze(they actually give you a nice point screen), and there is an extra bonus level. With that said, I enjoy the DK cart better. I think it just boils down to your tast in video games.
Start off by running forward and getting Diddy and grabbing the K (switch to Diddy as soon as you get him)
Jump on top of the tree right after you collection the K (the tree with the first red balloon on it).
Do a cartwheel roll to the next tree and collect the second red balloon. Cartwheel again and get the third balloon (green)
Drop down and get the "O" - Do not get the half way marker
Make your way under the bird pooping on you and get the rhino - Avoid the secret (this will make the "G" disappear and you need it for 100 points)
Collect the "G" and jump on top of the exit mound with Rambo the rhino
Use rambo to get the secret blue balloon and then kill yourself by dropping down the hole ASAP.
Rinse and repeat
Do it 8 times (I think) and then finish the level to get that extra 250 points

That's a big reason this is prob my least fav of the tournament carts. At least dying in Mario on the NWC makes sense for some speedy coins, but it's all done to move on to the next game as fast as possible. In this, people just repeat the same copy paste process over and over for 5 minutes.
About to hold a competition this summer on this, and I've already thought about having to ban the repeated death method.

Yeah it does feel a little ridiculous repeating the same thing over and over, especially considering it's easy to master (it's the first level after all). If I were you, I would just make a rule that you cannot die in the first level, eveything else is fair game. I believe that would force people to play the game the way it was intended.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Need a when you die timer instantly just goes to 0 code.

Yeah I thought about posting that here, but I thought it was worthy of its own thread. I was totally shocked when I did it. If you guys are wondering how I did it, I got to the half way marker on the first level and then let the big dude with the belly kill me. As soon as you spawn hold left and kill yourself. Do it 50 times.. I recommend using diddy because he is faster. It is possible to do it with DK but you will be pressed for time.
