AMERICAN MAN MOVED TO EUROPE WANTS TO PLAY HIS SNES

Hello everyone:

I just recently moved to Sweden, and I brought my American SNES and NES with me. I got the power converter to reduce the voltage and plugged my Nintendo into my new TV... the picture was there, but it was in black and white! Argghhhh! I've started doing research and it turns out there's a difference not only in voltage coming out of the wall but video signal. The North American SNES has a NTSC signal, but in Europe they have PAL. Anyway, I need some info on getting a converter. Also, I don't want to play european games on my SNES; I already have every game that I'll ever want or need to play. I just want to be able to play those gems here, where I've been sentences to live for what looks to be a a very long time.

  • You need a TV that supports NTSC.

If your TV is new, it should be able to support it.

Post the specs of your TV here.

I dont think there is any converter that can change the video signal from NTSC to PAL.

Well... At least I havnt heard of one.

Havnt looked into it really :/

EDIT: My bad. Just googled 'convert NTSC signal to PAL' and it brought up a whole stack of converters.

Cant comment on how well they work though.

  • Any good modern tv will support ntsc even crt tv's. If you are using a small screen 14" or less then it's probably the tv at fault - my snes displays 60hz no problem on my pal tv. You should not need any converters at all unless the tv can't display ntsc signals.
  • Are you using the RF or the AV ports?
