a guy I know on the neo forums I'd going to do a run of earthbound "repros". He's taking Mother 2 carts as donors and swapping the chips. So basically its an Earthbound Us Rom burned and put into an original Mother 2 board inside the original Mother 2 shell. Kinda a novelty sure, but oddly people have expressed interest
Ulasamosa I could definitely see the interest in that. Makes you wonder what he'd be asking for it though. The game has gotten to be prohibitively expensive considering the mass amount of available stock on it online so he'd have to cut a decent rate for it I'm sure.

I hope reproduction carts get made. It would actually give people an affordable alternative so they can play the game on their system.
I hope one day EarthBound repro carts get made to. If the cartridge said "reproduction" on the front and end of the label. Nobody could get ripped off, and people that want to play the game who can't afford a actual copy can finally play and own a reproduction of it. Games that are actully rare like NWC, and the panesian NES games can get reproductions without people getting mad about it. So I don't see why a SNES EarthBound reproduction cart is so out of the question and would upset people.
I'm wondering why make a repro on something that's retail? EB isn't really too rare, just overly expensive. I find them about 3 times out in the wild and resold them. They're not common by any means, but they're not like a NWC or anything.
If you're just gotta repro them, my opinion is to not only just put "reproduction cart" or whatever, but make it very different than the actual cart itself, like the art or even keeping them on a SFC cart with the rom translated and patched like James mentioned or even getting one of those red carts from retrousb (Red would look good on EB IMO).

Agreed with this. Even with reproduction etc on the cart, I'm sure it wouldn't stop some people. At least with different colour carts, trying to change labels onto a real cart etc would be a royal pain in the arse.
Meh. Personally, I wouldn't buy a repro of a game that was already released in the US when, oh, I don't know, I can spend twice as much to get a quality SNES flash cart that will play not just this game, but loads of others as well.
The idea of burning a ROM onto the Japanese cart and putting a new label on it sounds interesting though. I wouldn't do it, but I can see the appeal.
The powerpacks always come up as affordable alternatives to expensive games, I have tried to explain before that some people (me included) will not use a powerpack. In my eyes, it's no different than using an emulator on a computer and I despise playing games on a computer. You can argue all you want that it is completely differnet and what not but I'll never change my stance on it. I much rather have a game on its own cart whether it be original or repro. So to all those that insist upon powerpacks....NO!

Do you realize how reproductions are made? Using ROMs from the computer.

Do you have any real reasons for not liking powerpaks, like did you try one out and not like it for what ever reason, or are you jusing basing your opinion off of nothing other then what you've read?

I'd use one, but only for playing HACKS. No real comercial roms, just hacks

Wasn't the same process used for retail releases?
Yeah that is what he was trying to get at. There is very little difference between a retail game, repro, and what a powerpak does, as far as playing the game. It is NOTHING at all like playing on a PC emulator.
The powerpak does have an emulator root to it and from it a lame little limitation problem because of the NES Header format it uses to read things to setup the cart to run the game right. If something is off or not properly supported you get errors or just stuff not working at all in the case of the MMC5 chip which until recently was a totally lost cause but now got tweaked enough to get Castlevania III to work while the KOEI stuff is still dead. Sure the powerpak itself is hardware but it does have to work using the flawed header format invented back in the 1990s by Marat for the iNES emulator.

You say that like it happens a lot. I've used my powerpak pretty much daily for almost 2 years and the only problems I've run in to were with games that were already known to have issuse. And now most of those games are working with no issues at all.

No real loss there...heres the list. A few of these do work but are just not fully tested out so they may still have glitches.....and that is because no one actually wants to play them anyway.

I have used one at a friends and I just did not like it at all. Going through a menu to find a game turns me off for one and they still are not perfect in terms of games. Nothing replaces getting a cart, being able to admire the label, put it in and have it start right up. Powerpacks are not for me which is why I get frustrated when people just use that as the only alternative to getting a very expensive cart. I could get the powerpack or for the same money get two or three repros and enjoy them much more than a powerpack.
