What is your favorite Gameboy game?

I was a Game Gear kid back then, so I didnt have a GB up until a few years ago.  I have a few titles that I expected to be good, but they seem like Atari ports of SNES games to me. (DK Land, Bill & Ted's)  I can actually bare to play Kirby's Dream Land 2 for a while without pulling my hair out, but outside of that, what are the best games to play?

  • Mario Land 2, followed closely by Kirby's Pinball Land.
  • Operación C
  • Donkey Kong was really neat, especially on the Super Gameboy

this. I simply can't play on a gameboy anymore, the Super Gameboy has spoiled me. Some games colorize beautifully!

  • NBA all star challenge and F1 race
  • Didnt play tons of GB, only what I actually had as a kid. And I remember having loads of fun with Kid Icarus Myths and Monsters, and TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan. I had some others that were ok but those 2 were my favs.
  • I didn't have many games for it, but I do remember liking Garfield Labyrinth (which was known in the USA as Real Ghostbusters), Alfred Chicken, Pokemon Blue and Silver (the latter is technically a GB/GBC game), and Mario Land 2.

Do you still choose the Super gameboy over the Gamecube?

  • game... cube...? joking, I've never owned one. Super gameboy all the way for me.
  • Metroid II
  • I'd have to go with Pokemon Blue or Link's Awakening
  • Great Greed for sure.
  • Trying not to list games others have. Konami had some nice Castlevania games (2 and 3 which is Legends) and a 'parodius' of the series called Kid Dracula (also on Famicom.) It's harder and designed as such but the Mega Man games are a good choice. Samurai Shodown is an amazing port of that NG game using 'Chibi' graphics, but has all the moves, stages, and characters and plays smooth. Gargoyle's Quest is a hard but fun Ghosts n Goblins spinoff action-rpg title worth a look. Final Fantasy Adventure(prequel to SNES Secret of Mana) I think would be a must play as well.

Also keep in mind if you're looking just at Gameboy, BLACK Gameboy Color games are hybrids and will work on it too. This opens the door to a pile of truly fantastic games that came out in the mid/late 90s. Stuff like Ghosts n Goblins, Blaster Master Enemy Below, Dragon Warrior1+2, Game & Watch Gallery 2 and 3, Pokemon Pinball, Shadowgate Classic, Legend of Zelda Links Awakening DX, and quite a few others too. You may want to branch your research out that way too.
  • I would have to say the Donkey Kong land series was one of my favorites growing up. I also have Mega Man IV and played that a lot but it usually just destroyed me.
  • Ninja Gaiden Shadow, TMNT or Pokemon I can't decide.
  • Solomon's Club is my fave followed by Catrap and Fortified Zone.
  • Link's Awakening, the Castlevania games and Dragon Warrior Monsters was my bag instead of Pokemon, it's a GBC game but it works on the GB.
  • I loved the Tiny Toons game where you could have been the rabbit, pig, or duck... I dont remember which one that was but I played it all the way through in one sitting on many different occasions.
  • My favorite as of now is easily Kid Dracula. So cute yet so evil. >=D

Totally. Gamecube leaves you in B&W. Super Gameboy colors, etc. Also, unless you have a RetroUSB adapter to use a SNES pad, you're stuck with a big awkward analog controller. I only use the 'cube if it's a GBC or GBA game.

Also, totally Metroid II. Kirby's Dreamland 2 is great. If you're not enjoying it because of the screen, try a lit GBA or Super Gameboy. I had a love/hate relationship with my GBC before I added the frontlight.
  • Links Awakening

    Metroid II

    Kid Icarus

man i wish i still had my childhood gameboy stuff.
  • Tetris

    Operation C

    Mario Land 2
  • Link's Awakening.
  • Knights Quest

    Rolands Curse I and II

Hienkio Alien (I know I spelt that wrong)

Sword of Hope I and II

    Dead Heat Scramble

    TMNT Fall of the Footclan

    The Adventures of Star Saver
  • Pokemon Red/Blue, Link's Awakening and Metroid II.
  • I don't know if I'm patient enough for Metroid II anymore....chasing down those Metroids gets old.
  • Mario Land 1 and Castlevania 2.
  • Metroid II is fine if you play in front of a printed copy of a map of the layout of the game which they annoyingly didn't introduce until Metroid 3. It's so much fun having a map to use so you can get around in it without getting lost because with the lack of color everything looks exactly the same.

Also looking back on the first post. If a game like Kirby's Dream Land 2 is just tolerable enough for awhile before wanting to pull your hair out, perhaps you invested in the wrong system because that's one of the best titles on it. Both for gameplay and in the quality of the visuals and audio.
  • It's a tie between these two below. These took up all my time when I was a kid.

  • Another vote for Operation C....but then again, was anybody surprised?

P.S. I have no deathed it too....
