Emergency NES sticker repair help!!!

Rare NES video game inside of VGA NES custom size case w/ UV Protection & Slide Bottom that usually rests inside of a tightly shut safe was examined today, and am now coming to the conclusion that the edges of the sticker are raising from the plastic...

Why.... did... this.... occur!!!... ?

I rarely handle any of the games i keep in there and just looked at them today to admire em and noticed 1 was doing just this... I havnt taken it out of this VGA case (even though its slide bottom) for like 4-5 months and never even handle the case with it inside!!

It just sits there.. no sunlight, no movement.. why would the sticker start to pull up????

Stupidly frustrating after spending money on this kind of protection..

need help! repair? leave it?

  • Probably more due to the degradation of the glue than anything you've done to it. Bad label glue is a somewhat unstoppable force even if the cart is stored well. Is this your NWC you're referring to? Those and the 3rd party produced carts (Acclaim, Sunsoft, Hi-Tech) are really the only NES games that seem to suffer from bad glue, both mottling and lifting.

Glue sticks work great on all the other labels, but I wonder if their is visible bleed through on these since they seem to be thinner and more transparent than standard Nintendo produced cart labels.
  • Interesting...what happens fast forward 20 more years? 50?

ill take into consideration where the sticker might have come from and what glue to use to repair if i decide to go that route.. argh!
  • sorry for the bad luck that is a shame!
  • After doing some quick research it seems its bound to happen, but is limited to where the glue is not touching at that.. need confirmation on this from NA people though Anyone got pics of their odd ball rare carts doing this unknowingly?

I gotta say I could care less about 50 years from now because I'll be fucking dead. I think I'll spend my time playing my games instead of "admiring" them. Good luck with fixing it up, that sucks.

That's what I was thinking except I figured I'd be lucky to make it 20 years. To stay on topic though, I keep clear drying glue sticks on hand in case I have label issues.

  • There was a thread just today or yesterday with the same topic that had a link to an old discussion with step by step instructions on how to give a label cosmetic surgery if you look a little you should find it no problem
  • great advice all! ThX! * except for you haters about me living 50 years and still enjoying my carts!! lawl *

More realistically, lets say what would happen in 10 years? And i do play and enjoy them!

but i like to stare and windowlick too!
  • People wont likely know what will happen to them in this time frame, who glued a 25 year old games label 50 years ago? Worse case scenario you have to glue it again. I would suggest just dealing with it until it gets real bad then decide at that time if you want to glue it down.
  • Ill keep a camera recording 24 hours a day and after about 10 years ill time lapse it into 30 seconds and get some results... reporting back then!!

But true, good point RetroNESNerd, no one knows yet... and at worst ill have to glue it down if it lifts even enough to PUT glue under it... just showing slight lift
