eBay second chance?

Ok, so I didn't win an auuction:

I got a second chance offer for 240. What gives? Did the highest bidder back out?

PS: is that a good price on a rare sealed PS2 bundle?

Comments

  • Either the winner back out/didn't pay or the seller has two (or simply more than one) and liked your final bid to offer you one.

  • Ok I looked at the bidding history. My fisrt bid in that had me at top was $142.50

All out of the blue, this 0 feedback guy that has newly registed appears, and keeps on 1-up ing me through the entire auction. I gave up at 240. Was this guy just dicking around?
  • You got shilled.

    doubt its a scam

i would always offer snd chance offers

its a huge time saver and ill top it off

with DAM thats a sexy auction man , im really not into ps2 that much but its really cool looking

  • not familiar with term "shilled", anybody care to define? and how should I procede from here? its certainly probably not worth the 240? or is it? I'm kinda want to call him out on the BS bidder, and go back to my original offer before the BS bidder appeared.
  • ^ The seller bid on his own auction with another, or "shill" account to control the final price. After winning himself, he sent you (the highest real bidder) a second chance offer in hopes of grabbing your highest bid, information most sellers never see.

I would, but I'm looking for a sealed black box PS2 for my sealed Ps2 collection

  • I wasn't aware of the second bidder. This situation might just be the perfect definition of shill bidding.

Out of principle, I wouldn't buy-it, but you could write him a message and say that you'll offer the original $150. He might take it.

Another course of action would be to message Ebay. That is definitely against Ebay policy, but I don't actually know what they'll do. This guy has a 4100 feedback account which he probably doesn't want to lose. Maybe you could simply threaten to notify Ebay. He might take the $150 offer.
  • I have had this happen before also. What I told the seller, was that I would be interested in buying it, but not for the price that I was just barely outbid by (since imo if the high bidder was bidding with essentially money he wasn't willing/able to fork over, it wasn't a legitimate bid). I said that I would be willing to pay the price that I outbid the next person down the list and he took it, which in the end saved me about $15. It wasn't a huge purchase, but it made me feel better about the situation.

I have imagined that this was possible but didnt really think people actually did it. Thats pretty sad. Ive never been offered a second chance on anything but now if I do, I know mostly what happened.
  • Messaged the buyer. He came down to $165. Good deal on this sealed package? FWIW sealed black box PS2 online pack systems are very hard to come by (not nearly as easy as blue box systems or slim systems)
  • That just proves that he shilled his own auction.
