NES- Donkey Kong 2
So I don't know if this is a dumb question or not, I'm sorry if it is, but how come a sequel to the original Donkey Kong for NES never came out? I know there is Donkey Kong 3 so I just thought it was strange a DK2 never was made, unless DK Jr. was supposed to stand as DK2. If anyone has any clue as to why DK2 was never made I'd be interested to hear it, just something I was confused about! THANKS

Thank I will check that out
Fun-but-common-fact-that-some-people-still-don't-know: Donkey Kong on the Gameboy is a completely different game than the arcade version. In fact, it's nothing like it other than the heavy influences. It's more like a challenging platformer. I believe there's 100 levels, too. It's definitely worth checking out if you loved Donkey Kong 1 and Donkey Kong Junior (DK2 in this case).
(Donkey Kong 3 is a weird shooter and not a platformer and doesn't even have Mario in it).
There is also a DK 2 Hack from Nuts and Milk. I'm not sure how good it is, but the youtube video looks pretty cool:
For the arcade, there is a conversion kit, called D2K, which might be the best of all the Donkey Kong arcade games.
This is a really good review, that shows all the screens:

The DK2 Hack Nuts N' Milk is a fun game but it definitely gets repetitive. I, of course made a CIB for it.

Hahaha, you never miss a beat Francis!
Every Donkey Kong game is repititve, so that just makes it consistent

It's heavily puzzle oriented, especially as the game progresses, so it's like a hybrid of sorts. Great game, by the way!

I'd go so far as to say that Donkey Kong on the Gameboy is just shy of amazing. It is on the top of my platforming list platformer to be sure.

Yeah.. You're right.
I played the shit out of this game when I was a kid. Was one of my absolute favorites back then. The Super Game Boy enhancements helped, too. Still have a copy now, and I have always intended to run through it again, just never got around to it. Loved all the different kinds of jumps you could do to be all acrobat-like, haha!

I never do! LOL
Pretty fun, it combines platforming with problem solving, and you've got to be perfect at making jumps, which can be challenging. With 50 levels, and a level editor, much more depth to it, than the 3 official DK games we got.
I give it an A+, and a fitting idea, since it was heavily influenced by DK, and has a Black Box style title screen.

I never do! LOL
hey that's mine LOL
But the CIB is from an outdated version, before I created custom levels and added a pie level. Someone used my notes and made a level editor for it, and I was going to finish, but never got around to it. Still working on my castlevania game.
I attatched the latest version if anyone is interested.

Indeed! Well, get to finishing it man!
I honestly do like the first version beeing that it's just like playing Nut's and Milk, but I will give your other a try, and see what it's like.
But... I think that starts out a bit too hard, I was able to pass the first level, but a noobie that hasn't played Nuts and Milk, will get frustrated with it and quit, I would save that one for towards the end.
Level 2 was pretty easy. Level 3 and 4, I couldn't finish, because jumping to grab the climbing parts was not working for some reason.
The "Jumping and Climbing parts" are intentional, I was trying to make the game play more like Donkey Kong.
This was my first attempt at ASM. If I were to finish this game with what I know today, you wouldn't recognize it at all as Nuts and Milk.
Maybe after I finish this

The NES Official Player's Guide also mentions RETURN OF DONKEY KONG coming soon. That was published after launch and so it's hard to tell if it came after DK Jr. and DK 3 or not. The other possibility is that it was released subsequently.
DK 3 was out before they printed the players guide . i am positive. i had DK3 when i got my deluxe set in 6th grade and the players guide was out a year or 2 later

OH MAH GAWSH. Are you making it for the NES? Do you have a blog to track your progress? =x That video's kinda old and I'd like to know more. =x

Yes it is for the NES and yes it can be played on NES hardware. Will it ever be released? Not sure what I should do when there is Francis out there trying to profit from someone elses hard work. It may end up being a flash only game.
here is the most updated thread for the game. http://acmlm.no-ip.org/board/thread.php?pid=82214#82214
