Genisis RF adapter/ cable box acting up
Okay. My Sanyo HDTV is exhibiting some type of bizzare behavior I've never seen before. The Cable company (Comcast) recently switched over to all digital cable (Xfinity), meaning the old analog cable channels no longer work. They provided us with a cable box that outputs only to RF channel 4. I wanted to fire up my model 1 Genisis, but I didn't have the AV cable handy, so I pluged up an old Nintendo brand RF adapter to the telivision set. Now both the cable box and the Genisis are set up to use analog RF channel 4. When the Genisis is turned off, the cable box signal passes through the passive adapter.
Now the wierd stuff:
My HRTV is set to analog 4. The cable box is on and the picture is clear. I switch on the Genisis and the picture turns to static. I turn the TV off and then back on. The picutre/sound is still static. At first, I could have sworn that my Nintendo RF adapter was toast, until I maunaully hit "04" on my TV remote. Now the genisis game picture and sound are crystal clear. I turn the Genisis off. The signal from the cable box comes back on, but the video/audio reception is terrible. I turn the TV off and back on. Still terrible reception. Now I hit "04" on my TV remote and the picture from the cable box is crystal clear, but if I turn on the Genisis, I get static again.
"04" and "04" are supposedly the same frequency, but if I tune the TV (by hitting "04" on the remote) to Genisis channel 4, then cabel box channel 4 looks like shit when I turn the Genisis off, until I hit "04" on the remote again. I've never seen this type of behavior exhibited before. I'll have to try pluging in the old analog TV from my Mom's bedroom and see if it misbehaves with the RF switch. Maybe the cable box and/or the Genisis RF signal is off by a couple megahertz?
For now, I'll just alleviate the problem by setting the Genisis RF to channel 3 since the cable box does not have this option, although that will mean I'll have to put up with loud and annoying static whenever I switch the Genisis on or off.

The Genesis and cable box may not be putting out on the exact same frequency.
Your TV is not automatically trying to lock on to the best frequency at all times, once it finds the strongest signal it locks on it and stays there. When you change the channel you are making the TV search that frequency range again for the best/strongest signal.
