I Need a Comic Book expert

Hi! I have a passion for everything thing that enters the category of "fictional universe" and comic book falls right in that category. Problem is when I try to start reading a new series, universe I always get confused on what to buy.

I like to start at the beginning but since I just want to read them I don't need let's say a mint copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 to read the story so TBP's are fine for me.... of course I can get individual issues as well (as long as they don't cost me the price of a new car).

My problem is when I look for TBP's I'm always confused on the contuinity of the universe. Like this one : http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Incredible-Volume-Marvel-Comics/dp/0785107126 There's Hulk #1 to #6 then it goes to Tales To Astonish why? Is that the original continuity or is it because Tales are a significant part of the story.... Is there some web sites that shows some sort of release timeline or something?

Or is there an expert here that is kind enough to let me PM him once in a while when I got a continuity problem or when I need advices?

BTW sorry for the sloppy english I'm french-canadian so I try my best thanks to anyone helping me!

  • Just google Incredible Hulk comic timeline.I had to google Zelda's and I still don't understand it
  • I already google almost everything and can't find something clead.... problem is I don't want a "In Universe Timeline" but a list sorted by release date like that one: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_media that but for hulk and batman would help me right now.... if someone is patient enough I may want to work on a list myself....
  • Nevermind the link I posted went to a list in chronological order.I don't know if you'll ever find a list like that.Since alot of comic series run at the same time and the hulk has been in a bunch of crossovers and special issues alot of the ones with him in it were probably released very close together.Hell there were probably multiple comics with him in that released on the same day.
  • I know that! I'm not a complete comic noob I just get confused when it comes to "what read in wich order" so I think I'm gonna do some interrest check in comics forums and do some lists of the main Marvel and DC Super-Heroes.... it'll be a long research but I'll be a comic book expert myself at he end!
  • As far as Marvel, it's easy to follow the Marvel Universe's timeline in order of events. If you want to get into Spider-Man, I recommend you start at the Brand New Day storyline as it sort of resets things and makes that series easy to get into. If you're interested in Marvel mainly, I recommend that you start with the Civil War trade paperback, you can also get things like New Avengers: Civil War, which detail each book's place during that part of the story.

If you're interested in older books and series, go to newkadia.com. Not only do they have alot of awesome shit, they also have the books listed in chronological order. PM me anytime if you need help.
  • You must take things as they come to you. Just as all the anwsers to how megaman and megaman X have not yet been anwsered
  • If you're looking for lists ordered by release date, look no further than Mike's Amazing World of Comics.

Click into DC or Marvel and find the "Master Lists" in Excel format that he has there.  Be forewarned, though... there are a lot of comic books out there.  The lists are pretty overwhelming.
