Virtual Boy: General Help Needed

I've been contemplating buying a Virtual Boy off and on for about a year now. There's just something about the console that I find highly intriguing and it's something I want to experience for myself, especially games like Vertical Force, Teleroboxer, Jack Bros. and the Japanese-exclusive Bomberman. Additionally, it doesn't seem like it'd be too hard (or expensive compared to some) to go for a complete NTSC cart-only (or better) set for the system. As such, I started to do my research, but I know it's not very accurate and I would highly appreciate some expert opinions. Below is a series of lists of information like parts of the Virtual Boy system and the costs of a cart-only set. I'm thinking about also looking into the parts of each CIB and the prices of each game CIB. We'll see. Please bear with me if some things are drastically off. (Of course, red headers in the spirit of the Virtual Boy).

TL;DR Version: Please verify this information and give me tips for jumping into the system.

Virtual Boy System: FAQ

Is the system region-free? Yes.

How many batteries does the system require? Six AA batteries.

That's really all I "know" or "suspect". Please fill me in on more accurate costs or any other information I may need/want to know before diving into this thing. Thanks!

  • I hate to double post, but 191 views and not a single reply? That's a little discouraging! I'd really appreciate some confirmation and tips.
  • I for one second you in your quest to gather information, I too would like to aquire a VB some day
  • I got a spare VB with all the parts for it, one of the legs won't lock into place due to a very small crack on the stand but other than that it's in good shape if your interested just let me know. The Bomberman game isn't japan only, it was released in the U.S as Panic Bomber.
  • ^ Really? It's not Hudson's Bomberman? Bummer. Also, PM sent.
  • Just to let you know, the black eye shade is removable as a separate part also. Seen many systems without it...
  • The only thing I know is that there was a prototype Faceball game for it. I'm not sure of any other prototypes.

I don't know how you would fix it. If you have the system on the floor or on a table it doesn't really effect the system.
